Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Re: PulseAudio

You have manually choose pulse audio if you want it instead of ALSA or OSS for the base system. You do it in TASMA => SOUND & MULTIMEDIA => SOUNDCONFIGURATION. If you want Amarok to use Pulse Audio you have to set it in Preferences => configure Amarok (I think it is, my tabs are all in swedish so I don't know the equivalent in english). I think the same goes for smplayer, kaffeine etc.
I can't tell the difference between them all, they just "sound"!

@phix: Nope, not that one either. Don't know how o describe it better than the changelog that comes with the updates in Ubuntu, or maybe all debian based OS (by updates I do not mean of Pardus as a whole for example 2008.1 to 2008.2, just updates of individual package). Just a list describing the latest changes in the package - "fixed the bla bla thing in line 123" etc. Not that it would give me very much since I don't know much about coding, it's more out of curiosity. @BenimAdimKirmizi: Yepp, maybe that would be an idea. The pisi hs shows just the same as historymanager.

@phix: No, I was more thinking of something like Ubuntu has. Whenever there's updates, there's also a changelog for what has changed since the last version of that package. @Bubbel: The Historymanager only show the new package number, I'm more interested in the changes that has been made.

I find this part very interesting: Agenda Item 2: HCI Works Işıl Poyraz has reported the following regarding the HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) studies held by Yıldız Teknik University: # Pardus has a pretty wide user base. In order to provide Pardus users' with applications better in terms of HCI, Pardus applications' interfaces' HCI will be help by YTU Department of Interactive Media Design. Initial studies has started on TASMA and the Milky iconset. Bi-weekly reports on usability tests held with users of different profiles are prepared. After an analysis held by an expert regarding these tests, a report of wider coverage will be prepared. One of the reasons I fell for Pardus in the first place was the desktop design. I have thought of leaving Pardus for example openSuse cause of its bigger repos and the faster implementation of new programs. But I would miss the Tulliana iconset and Tasma too much I think. And now, seeing that the developers of Pardus working togehter with the YTU on these questions the future looks bright!

If you mean kmix just start it again in from Program=>Multimedia=>Kmix. Or do you erase the icon as in delete the icon?

I have an HP nc4010 which works just fine with Pardus. Only the SD- reader does not work, but as I have understood it, it does not exist any drivers for that chipset at all in Linux. Only thing that bothers me is that I have undervolted the laptop, and in order to get it to work I have to manually start the undervolting after boot. This is because Mudur starts /etc/conf.d/local.start before the acpi-modules are loaded. Hopefully they'll change that in Pardus 2009.

Has anyone gotten the FastTrack, Gnutella and Ares- plugins working in Apollon? I get only OpenFT to work. I have forwarded all the necessary ports in the router, de- activated the firewall, but the three plugins just refuse to connect!

Correct me if I'm wrong but for some operations you will need the root - password such as upgrading the system from within the console, changing the SAMBA - configuration in TASMA etc. Other operations requires only the user - password (with administrator privileges). I can't answer what determines which level of privilege is required though. To me it seems fairly random sometimes. For example upgrading the system with the PISI - gui requires only admin rights while the command "lspci" requires root - privileges. HOwever The network - services in the Desktop or in KAPTAN requires only admin - rights.

Yes, I installed after I read your first post. But it's an earlier version that does not have support for plugins (i. e the openoffice- plugin). But maybe someone can update the version in the repos (I don't know how to do that).

Good work Michiel i haven't looked into this much, the only program I found was Telico that's in the repos. But it's not compatible with OOoo as far as I know.
I'll have a look at the programs you mentioned. Would be nice with a reference program to work with.
