46  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: pisi error updating contrib repo on: September 22, 2008, 12:42:43 PM
Yeah, doesn't look like it was a problem with any of the repo software though or any of the pisi's I'd built myself so rollbacks don't help. :) Probably down to something I'd installed from source. I normally use unionfs & some scripts based on trip to track source installs but I hadn't set that up in my previous install of 2008.1.

I'd been trying out a lot of game libraries like pyglet, rabbyt, pymunk and so forth and a few different 3d modellers... once a year or so I keep trying to learn Blender but I just can't get the hang of it.
47  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: problem with GeForce 8500GT on: September 22, 2008, 05:09:36 AM
I'm using a GeForce 8500GT as well, haven't experienced any display problems like you describe.

If you can, post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log (after trying to start x with the nvidia driver) via pastebin.com. I'll see if I can duplicate the problem at all.
48  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / pisi error updating contrib repo on: September 22, 2008, 02:57:16 AM
Wondering if anyone can duplicate this problem, I just want to find out if it's a result of something I broke myself or a problem with the repo. Nothing similar came up in bugzilla or google and I have been messing around with a ton of python libraries in the last couple days so that might be connected.

EDIT: I just did a fresh install of 2008.1 on a spare partition, the problem doesn't occur. So it's definitely something I broke. Smiley I'll update here if/when I figure out what it was.

I do aim to become an active contributor on the forums, lately though I've been working on understanding the intricacies of pisi packaging.

I've had a bugfix/update contrib package accepted and waiting on developer approval atm for a new contrib package. The dev's on the pardus-devel mailing list have been very helpful.

Still a few things I haven't got my head around yet, been going through the pisi source and existing pspec.xml for various packages looking for a way to specify an 'or' dependency. From what I've seen so far, doesn't look like there is one.

eg. package x requires either Alsa or OpenAL

Looks like the Pardus ftp server melted under the demand.

lashni@orphan ~ $ ping ftp.pardus.org.tr
PING ns2.pardus.org.tr (193.140.100.220) 56(84) bytes of data.
From ns2.uludag.org.tr (193.140.100.220) icmp_seq=1 Dest Unreachable, Bad Code: 10

ftp://ftp.linux.org.tr/pub/pardus/kurulan/2008.1/Pardus_2008.1_Hyaena_hyaena.iso

That mirror is up and working, install cd only though... the livecd's aren't on there. The other mirrors don't have the 2008.1 final yet, just the betas.

51  Assistance / Software / Re: Send url from firefox with kmail on: September 09, 2008, 16:13:02 PM
Let's hope it will be, but for the Firefox team, integration with KDE applications is not a priority, and the same is true of the KDE team towards Firefox, which is a GNOME application...

Yep Mozilla are aware of it and don't look like touching it... it's been raised in a few bug reports for firefox3 but they're all being marked as duplicates of an old bug that's still showing as resolved invalid. The workaround they mention in the bug report doesn't work for ff3 either.

You can build gnome-control-center and all it's dependencies but that's complete overkill. There's a slackware thread with possible solutions that I might have a play with tomorrow.

52  General / Tips and tricks / Getting 'Enqueue in SMPlayer' working on: September 09, 2008, 12:55:55 PM
If you're a regular user of SMPlayer, you'll notice that when you select some video files in konqueror then right-click and hit Enqueue in SMPlayer the first file will play successfully but it won't continue to the next in the playlist. As a front-end, SMPlayer basically waits for MPlayer to tell it when each file has finished playback. The problem arises from the fact that MPlayer is saying that the file is finished in Turkish and not an expected language.

Change the following setting and SMPlayer will be able to properly cycle through the playlist.

* SMPlayer: Options / Preferences / Advanced / MPlayer Language / End of File: \(Dosya sonu\) Çıkılıyor...
53  General / Introduce yourself / Hey from Australia on: September 09, 2008, 12:43:34 PM
Hi, I'm Tim and I've been using Pardus on and off since the 2007 release. I've decided to settle in with it as my primary distro and get more involved with helping the community in some fashion. I've been using various shades of Linux since about 95, starting on Slackware and recently LFS/Pardus/Mint. Somewhat of a hobbyist coder, python being the current infatuation - rarely brilliant at any language, I just tend to hack on stuff until it works.
