Assistance / Pardus for beginners / The Pardus Flavor? And: Live CD is representative or not?
|
on: October 27, 2009, 10:41:07 AM

Hello all, I was earlier using Pardus 2008, right now I am on Fedora 10. I do feel like coming back to Pardus, maybe now is the time. On this site http://linux.exton.net/node/273I found a remaster of Pardus 2009 in swedish and english, that is a live system. I tried it. Now I just wonder, if there is anyone who has tested it, and could tell me if that is representative for what I would get if I install Pardus. I know that there are speed issues, but I am more thinking about looks, configuration etc. Because one thing that really attracted me with Pardus 2008, was that the special customization of KDE 3, the "Pardus flavor" was so well thought out and nice looking. The feeling of running the live Pardus dvd (with KDE 4), is that this is quite much lost. Comments, info? Greetings, Andreas

I did not try launchy on p2k9, but as far as I know, this type of functionality is native of KDE4. Alt+f2, is it?

Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Network printing, desktop background

Oops, the notification of your answer must have gone to my spam-box!
Well. This concerns my laptop, that I sometimes use with a dual monitor setup. The other day, while in this setup, I changed the background of the two screens. After working, I went home with the laptop. On the next session, the background was not changeable. I do not see that this had to do with updates.. I also tried to start with an earlier kernel, but it did not help. I will try to back-trace confiugration changes with the histroy manager, thanks for that tip.
yours, Andreas

Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Network printing, desktop background

Hello all.
Suddenly my network printer won't work. With my windows machine hooked up in the same way, there is no problem. Any ideas? On top of that, I can no longer change color/image on the desktop. Not a major problem, but slightly annoying.
Until now, my Pardus installation has been fantastic.
I am thankful for any advice or ideas,
yours, Andreas

Dear list members,
I have been trying to install NtEd (music notation software) from source. When I run then configuration script, it cannot find cairo, and asks me to make sure that it is installed. It is. How can I make the script "find" cairo?
thanks, Andreas

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Re: Infrared/bluetooth connectivity, documentation

Thanks for your reply. I saw that documentation, but it is not really what I am after. Maybe what I need is to know the basic concepts of how a Linux OS works in general, to know what to look for and where. KDE documentation maybe covers some of those aspects? Or should I look elsewhere? I have been googling a lot, but it is difficult to know where to start..
As far as IrDA communication is concerned, I found something called tasma-extra. Could not find that in the repositories though. How can I activate the IrDA port?
yours, Andreas

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Infrared/bluetooth connectivity, documentation

Hello forum,
I am new to linux. After looking around for sometime, I decided on Pardus 2008. Sofar, I do not regret it!
But what about documentation? I have been trying to find something in english, but not succeeded in doing so. If someone could direct me to on-line documentation (if there is any) I would be very grateful.
Support for infrared port? When trying to connect with my mobile, pardus simply does not react. Should this work out of the box, or do I have to make some special moves to make it run? Same for bluetooth?
cheers,
Andreas
