Hi,

Maybe I am wrong, but I use kdesu kate (file name here) to open up files as administrator in kate.

Thank you for the tender welcome, waf and azra!

Hi PhiX, and Good point.  I was steered towards Linux Mint a few months ago when someone that posted and helped me with a problem at the ubuntu forum sent me a private message asking me how I was doing, and asking me why I was still struggling with kubuntu and to give kde Mint a try.  I was glad he did, otherwise, I'd still be struggling.  Same thing happened with Linux Mepis, a couple years ago when I first delved into the world of Linux.   Word of mouth because someone actually has some personal experience with it.

Regards,
Lisa Marie

Thank you, Michiel!  I was confused by all of the files that have the check code features as I've never seen them before.  I panicked!  Thanks for clearing things up for me.
Good news, my husband said to send him the link and he can start the download before he leaves for work, then burn it when he comes in.  So, this will cut out much time consumption.  I will have to wait for him to send it in the post, as his work takes him far away much of the time.

Regards,
Lisa Marie

P.S. Michiel, Oh and thank you for the welcome.  Thanks for posting the release notes!
845  Assistance / Pardus for beginners / [solved] First time to download a distro, which kde file do I choose? on: September 17, 2008, 22:40:15 PM
Hi all,

This will be my first time to download a Linux distro.  I have dial-up (yes, some of us still rely on this ancient tool  Wink  ) .  I usually send the mirror web page to my husband, and he downloads it for me as he has DSL at work.  He is not able to do this anytime soon for the next couple of weeks, and so I thought I would give it a try on my imac machine, using igetter download manager.  This way I can stop the download if I need to and resume it later.  I've downloaded movies off of the usenet before, and that can take upwards of three days, so the slow time in getting it won't bother me a bit.  If I could, I would buy it, but pardus 2008.1 isn't available anywhere that I have looked.  I would like to use the live cd.  I just want to make sure, do I download the hyeana.iso?  and not the mid5sum, correct?

Regards,
Lisa Marie

Greeting,

I wouldn't worry about those numbers in DistroWatch, either.  I just happen to hear about pardus from the Linux Mint newsletter and their release of KDE version.  Someone said to have a serious look at pardus, and since I'm a big fan of KDE, I was tempted. Grin  I have never heard about this distro and it looks like something I would be happy to use.  It has some innovations, and I like to see people try creating new and workable ideas.

Word of mouth is powerful!
