Pardus Linux offers Mplayer and Smplayer in it's repos. If these two programs do not work well with each other, then there is a bug which should be fixed, isn't it?

If 'Change volume on every file' is set in Smplayer properties, Smplayer refuses to play videos. There is some error of Mplayer instead. Possible bug.

Try to run it from command line and look at the output. Maybe you'll find smth there.

PhiX, no, the problem is not the path to Xlib.h, but Xlib.h file itself. If you look at the part of make output here http://codepad.org/pbKu9LQS you can see lots of wrong declarations (does not name a type). So, as aegisub developer said, this might be a problem of non-consistent X headers.
