1  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Pardus 2009.1 (release schedule) on: December 16, 2009, 13:09:12 PM
Pardus is well respected when mentioned to DW's readers (and also in other forums). I think it's just that the Pardus' devs are mainly focused on Turkish users, just don't put much effort internationally. They don't mind supporting users who find and use it etc, but not really "care" about promoting it.
2  Assistance / Installing Pardus / Upgrade from 2008 to 2009? on: August 21, 2009, 05:08:43 AM
What is the status on this? I heard somewhere they are working on a tool to make doing so easy. I ask because Pardus 2009 is out for over a month now...

This doesn't affect me personally, so maybe it was already solved (I was distro hopping, and came back to a fresh install 2009 was out), but I think being able to upgrade from an existing install is an essential feature.

Yay! I've been waiting for it all day. Did a fresh install of Pardus, finally on my netbook, and needed updating Wink
4  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Pardus 2009 Beta Released on: June 21, 2009, 09:34:13 AM
I also noticed that in YALI you can choose to add other OSs in the GRUB being installed, I checked that one, but after installing only Pardus 2009 beta came up in GRUB.

I also had this happen. It was pretty scary at first. Did you make a report?
5  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Pardus 2009 Beta Released on: June 21, 2009, 01:46:16 AM
Not so much a bug, but I suggest that be a purple/gold KDE colour scheme,  to match with the colour Pardus is using for (in YALI, Kaptan etc) this release.

6  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: pardus 2009 alpha released on: June 19, 2009, 13:34:09 PM
I believe so, but I guess they are going by Turkey time.

In the meantime, look at some cool preview pics of Kaptan on http://planet.pardus.org.tr/

Huh? When the CD first loads, press F2 and select English. No problems here...

I really really hope they'll put in TASMA for something like that. KDE's System settings is quite cluttered...
8  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: pardus 2009 alpha released on: May 28, 2009, 09:04:07 AM
Thanks for the news!! Smiley

Just installed it (fooling around). For the installer, kaptan etc they've gone for a purple and gold theme. It looks pretty nice. Installation time is quicker than 2008, but nothing to brag about.

As for the desktop, there's good old kaptan, pisi, and also the pardus network manager, otherwise the interface doesn't look too different from standard kde. I especially missed TASMA.  Will keep experimenting

That said we still have two months till release.
9  Assistance / Software / Re: where to get pisibull??? on: February 06, 2009, 00:33:11 AM
the Pisibul pisi doesn't work.

Installing from source however makes it work.

See wiki: http://en.pardus-wiki.org/Pisibul

Nothing to worry.

11  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Pardus 2009 on: January 09, 2009, 11:48:07 AM
A radical thought; but would it be possible to change to VLC + plugin from Mplayer etc?

Since VLC is also qt now, theming isn't much of a problem. And it might also save duplication  mplayer+gnome-mplayer+kmplayer+plugins.

See Onur's latest reply, explaining it in English

It is said that only removing the quiet parameter is necessary, as it fixes the
kernel bork, and that there is no need to do "noacpi" for Pardus.

Acpi being off is why the battery isn't being recognised. Removing quiet fixes the kernel panic problem, that you saw when acpi is on. So now you can turn on acpi, and then can see the battery, hopefully.

Bump.

This has been fixed already, in the 28/11 update. I just didn't notice till now.

Just letting people know. Smiley
14  General / As seen on the internet / Re: DistroWatch.com statistics on: December 18, 2008, 03:35:30 AM
Pardus each a height of 34 in recent weeks, but dropping back to 39. (Using the default 6month view)

DW has generally been quite positive to Pardus, imo. Ladisiav personally praised it when he tried it. Also when they did the package management summary sheet (http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20081013#feature), he included pisi alongside the other major systems.

I've been looking through the bug reports again, I noticed the the page linked to earlier now says "fixed".

Can you confirm azra?

http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=8343

When I asked about it on IRC...

<patacute> Sertse it has been solved
<kobzeci> sertse it is about the kernel panic
<havan> Sertse: yes, last comment says that it works if he deletes the "quiet" parameter at boot time (in grub)

My rough understanding of the bug report was that he encountered a kernel panic problem when booting Pardus, which was solved by having a no acpi parameter. But this gives creates the Battery monitor error.

One of the comment said that if the quiet parameter is removed, it would be ok. Just removing the quiet parameter I think.

I posted in the bug report for a clarification. Hope the respond Smiley

Bug 7989 is http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=7989 , it is about a sound problem, making the eeepc not shutdown completely. Ask Williem or tuxedup Wink , they were discussing it in http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php?topic=1986.msg8934#msg8934

This sounds similar to yours with the AAO...don't know if is the same bug? However the eeepc shutdown fix is now in the test repo...
