Read it, guess its true about the community. It's really quiet/inactive for something of Pardus' calibre...
But I'm just repeating what everyone here knew

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / CD/DVD problems

What media players does everyone use to play CDs and DVDs? For some reason none of the players seem to work :S. I thought media works OOTB w/ Pardus, so strange..
CD's (audio): KsCD plays but there is no sound. Kaffeine works ok though.
DVD's (movies): None of the "mplayer"'s seem to be working. Kmplayer returns a "Mplayer is not running" status message. Gnome-mplayer does not respond. SMplayer can not find my CD-drive (first run asks me to configure/choose the drive, but there are no options to choose from).
Kaffeine again ok, but there is a loud static sound whenever there are Menu sections of the DVD...
VLC works ok with DVDs, does not play my CD's...
Anyone else have issues?

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Re: easy way to switch between kde3 and kde4?

hello frisil
Easiest way is to change your kdm login theme to one that support changing desktop environments. The default Pardus login theme are some reason hides this.
You need to download "kdmtheme" first. It is in the repo. Now go to TASMA - Appearance & Themes - "KDM Tema Yoneticisi". Don't worry, the program is in English. Follow the instructions there.
Many KDM themes can be found at kde-look,org . Many of those have the change session option that allows you to choose whether to login as KDE 3/4 or even Gnome or Xfce is you got that..
Hope this helps.

General / General topics / Planet Pardus (English developer blogs) updated!
|
on: October 31, 2008, 12:29:44 PM

Planet Pardus (Pardus developers' english blog) recently had a few updates. Refreshing, since the last one before that was in August... Go see it here: http://planet.pardus.org.tr/Main highlights are Pardus' participation in Google Summer of Code and some general ideas about Pardus 2009. Good to see Pardus making an effort for student development. And especially interesting: "Türker Sezer, worked on an easy to use wizard base Pardus CD/DVD/USB distribution media creator GUI application" We might be able to make remasters and usb installs soon? =)

Assistance / Software / Firefox sluggish on some websites?
|
on: October 24, 2008, 15:01:19 PM

|
When using Pardus, I sometimes find that FF is really sluggish with certain sites. Clicking is unresponsive, scrolling is jerky etc. This is particular the case when using facebook for example.
When I do it with konqueror the pahes appear to be fine (smooth), though it take longer to load.
Anyone else experience this? It doesn't seem to be the case with other distros...

I am saying, that many of us don't know Turkish and can't translate. But online translators can translate Turkish into broken English. Users might be able to get the gist of the articles and turn it into normal English.

Arza. I wasn't on my Pardus comp when I wrote that. Forgot Pardus isn't set up that way compared to Ubuntu/Debian. Sorry about that.
A bit random perhaps, but try the original entry again but remove "splash" and "quiet" in the grub.conf. Tell us what it says as it tries to shutdown.
Removing splash removes the orange picture etc when you startup/shutdown, Removing quiet means it will show all the system messages that occurs during bootup/shutdown
This is only to see if the system would give us any message that might explain the cause of the problem.
Btw: I'm wondering if you tested whether the USB/SDD slots, webcam, mic, suspend etc works? Just curious.. if hardware detection is that good. =)

General / Wish list / Emesene (MSN Client)
|
on: October 22, 2008, 08:24:34 AM

Emesene: MSN Messenger http://emesene.orgVersion in repo is 1.0 iirc. Current version is 1.01. From release announcement "All users should update as soon as possible, since this change is going to be applied to all servers, resulting in either error messages when trying to manipulate contacts, or empty contact list after logging in."

Would it be worthwhile to copy-paste it on a *shudder* online translator and get the community here to try to piece it in English?
Online translation is.....interesting at best, but one might be able to get the gist of a passage, and from there we might be able to rewrite it..
Not a perfect solution.
