Exceptional article, there are many things I didn't know about Pardus on that website. Brilliant.

Despite having a smaller number of programmers as opposed to e.g. .deb, .rpm etc APTs, the OpenOffice is standard in most distros, to me, its the most critical package unrelated to the system operations, other than my internet browser (FF) - It should not take this long...

I currently under the British education system... I know local univerisities employ Linux in the advanced years of their study, but they have few applications for that platform etc.
Next year, university, doing Highers at the moment, the reason we don't use Linux, isn't a matter of security, or availability of software tailored to our "needs" (Gambas/Firefox/OpenOffice), it isn't a matter of cost, it isn't a matter of support. "We're used to it" is the answer I recieved when I asked the Head Technician.
Despite its immaturity, there is now a piece of paper pinned high on a wall in a computing class that reads, "</Windows>"...

@ Alan, since the Turkish governemnt essentially pay the salaries of the people working on Pardus they're probably encouraging widespread usage of the distro within Turkey at least. Language-orientated distros are catching on... Asianux, Kiwi Linux etc. I think this is a form of alienation - I have nothing against people developing the interface of a distro to properly experience the software in their own language but isolating others based on language is a bit... low?

AlanGB, same, Distrowatch is brilliant in keeping the Linux world in sync. Although that statistical fault does seem peculiar... lol. When did Ladislav retire?

You could just go to the websites of the download repositories and download individual .pisi files, whihc you can backup.

To install packages using Package Manager you must be Administrator, "root" is unessessary in this respect.

I'm not a big fan of Amarok, I actually prefer Kaffeine for any multimedia file, but this program has managed to achieve the status of a default program, something thats as rare of the planets alligning.

Flattered to be ranked along PhiX and altolboo, I haven't been here a fraction of the time they have.

Genuine Suggestion: Showing an introduction/blank page when starting up the Package Manager - I'm tired of spending 5-10 seconds waiting for that alphabetical list to load, its not neccessary. Also, I think Pardus could reccomend applications for new users to Linux possibly, like "ccsm" is Compiz, good games etc, in case people don't know about Pardus Wiki.
