302  Assistance / Download/Repos / [Solved] Using Package Manager To Download, But Not Install .PiSi Packages? on: October 23, 2008, 12:49:39 PM
I want for Pardus to be the first Linux distro in history to have all its repositories available in torrent form, so download links will always be available (servers may go down, the global linux community won't), there is more flexibility using torrent clients (resume downloads whenever you want) etc.

At the moment I'm downloading each package individually, but the rate at which they wil be released is very sluggish, does anyone know of a way to use the Package Manager to "Select All Packages" in one category, download them, but not install them?

Current torrents can be accessed at:

303  Assistance / Software / .LZMA Extractor? on: October 23, 2008, 12:42:01 PM
Pardus has posted individual files for the development of its projects, I intend to make these files more easily available via P2P downloading, it would be far faster (meaning in future I can keep in sync with the rapidly changing projects) to download the latest .pisi package than just extract it. Extracting a .pisi package leaves 3 files extracted, two are .xml, the other is .tar.lzma, how do I extract that? I can't seem to do it through 7Zip through GUI, and the package reccomended on the internet is not in the repositories.

Thats why I'm suggesting this method for anyway who wants to try it out, see if they like it. You can select the option to install nvidia-xconfig etc, and anything else that <you> choose to, its got a finer degree of control than than the Display Manager. But, to each his own, I'm just personally used to using Package Manager Smiley

306  General / Wish list / Re: Evolution, please? on: October 23, 2008, 09:53:10 AM
Since Evolution on Pardus would only be experimental for the time being, why don't you try other stable email clients, I'd reccomend Thunderbird (made by the Mozilla Foundation):

307  Assistance / Software / Re: Smplayer does not switch to the next file in playlist on: October 23, 2008, 09:47:55 AM
Why do you use Smplayer? VLC player is without a doubt the most compatible and portable media player, it has all codecs already built into it, VLC player has a playlist option as well:

You're referring to navigating to TASMA > Peripherals > Display? Do you have the option to configure the NIVIDA driver afterwards?

310  General / Wish list / Coice Of Desktop Enviroment In YALI on: October 23, 2008, 08:32:28 AM
I think that a larger market share can be achieved by letting the user choose the desktop enviroment he/she wants during YALI, so that its the default enviroment when they first log in. GNOME will appeal to most of the Linux community, and Xfce will entice those with older computers or those who wants a more stable OS.
