I agree with you.
KDE4 in NOT (KDE3 + more options). Sad
Some options are missing in KDE4.
Like this option.
And there will be more.........
2087  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Pardus 2009 BETA root permission <-->GUI editing bug? on: June 24, 2009, 22:16:23 PM
The answer is Alt+F2 and enter

kdesu kwrite /etc/hosts
And when the bits and bytes are in the right place, this should solve your problem.  Cheesy
2088  Assistance / Installing Pardus / Re: Pardus 2009 Install Question on: June 24, 2009, 16:20:58 PM
As I didn't see an automatic update applet yet in Pardus 2009, you can get the latest version through an update by giving the following commands in a Konsole
Quote
sudo pisi ur
and
Quote
sudo pisi up
Information about the current installed version can be found in System Information in the Kickoff menu.
2089  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Dual-monitor setup - laptop screen very dim on: June 24, 2009, 16:06:14 PM
I don't have the same experience with the combination:
MSI Wind U90X-037EU + Philips 220CW9FB or HP LP2475w.
So it isn't a default dual display behaviour.

Also I am wondering where I can check whether I have the proper video driver instaleld, I miss the current Display Manager, and have noticed the settings section (formerly TASMA) has changed.
Do a search with
Quote
xorg
in Package Manager and you will find the nvidia drivers.
And I expect that the process of (semi)automatic installation of these drivers will be in one of the next release !  Huh?

I installed module-nvidia185 and xorg-video-nvidia185 for the GeForce 6200 and after a restart the nvidia driver wasn't active according to System Information (2.1 Mesa 7.5-rc2) !
The contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf is
Quote
Section "ServerFlags"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "VideoCard"
EndSection
How do I activate this nvidia driver ?  Huh?

Also I am wondering where I can check whether I have the proper video driver instaleld,
The answer is in
sysinfo is under K-menu (Kieker style)--> Tab Computer --> System Information
At the bottom-right you can see the video driver in use.
And I am sure that the video driver issue (nvidia, ati, etc 3D-support) will be solved before the final release,
Otherwise Pardus will have a major issue.
That's why I didn't make a bug about this issue at this moment.
You can always make a bug report, and see what the response is.

A minor annoyance is the clock being used in the taskbar: it has no option in the settings to set it to 24hour, I really dislike am/pm time watching< i am very much used to e.g. 23:12 instesd of 11:12 pm....
To solve this:
System Settings > Regional & Language > Country or region: (change)
and select Europe, ........   etc.
Restart the computer and the time, money ....... has been changed.
The above is general KDE stuff.

And to change the language:
Open Package Manager.
Search for "-nl" or "-de" or "-fr" or ......
Check  at least "kde-I10n-..." and "glibc-locales-..." (and openoffice)
Install these packages.
And change the language in System Settings > Regional & Language > Add Language.
And change the language in OpenOffice.  Grin

And "System Information" is only available when you have the Kickoff menu and NOT with the Classic and Lancelot menu.

Quote
The process for the sysinfo protocol died unexpectedly
on two different versions of new installed Pardus 2009 beta. Sad

The third bug is about  Missing "Select all packages in this category" option in 2009 beta.

My first bug for Pardus 2009 Beta  Sad
http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=10073
It isn't a bug but a hidden feature.
Have a look in the pictures bellow.
After activating [1] the picture on the right will appear.
And after activating [2] Auto Login can be selected at [3].
I don't think it is very logical !
But at least the option is present.

Edit: And I think it will change in the next release.  Wink Have a look in the bug report.

2099  General / As seen on the internet / Re: Future Firefox to run separate processes on: June 07, 2009, 15:47:59 PM
Don 't know whether it is related, but I have experienced lots of system crashes and freeze lately, always when browsing in Firefox.
I don't have this experience.  Smiley
It's as stable as it has always been.
2100  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: pardus 2009 alpha released on: June 06, 2009, 22:47:37 PM
Opera doesn't work in the alpha, have tried the included version and the tarball of the latest beta.
Don't worry....... I expect Opera to be available for the final release.
It's too important.
