2  Assistance / Software / Re: 2009.2 PPracer unplayable on: June 11, 2010, 17:09:56 PM
Thx. My forum profile is English preferred unchanged, so u mean language setting for Pardus2009.2/Firefox? I'm on Mint now & words are currently not red underlined.

Kinda weird cause I did setup/customise a few things while in Pardus2009.2, was in English all the while... Huh? Anyway, no problem now.

Had the same problem with Extreme Tux Racer in Linux Mint. The fix for me was to disable joystick (untick "enable joystick").

I should've tried that while I was still with Pardus 2009.

Thanks atolboo,

But as this is not the only (recurring) problem on my setup with 2009 versions, think I'll stick with Linux Mint for now & try again when Pardus 2010 comes out.

One of the reasons why I stuck with Pardus 2007 & 2008 for soooo long was that they just worked the way I wanted, things laid out the way I wanted. Only major thing I had to do was to enable amd's cool n quiet, which was relatively simple iirc.

Smiley

Thanks Andreas & atolboo.

I do not know why Pardus 2009.2 & 2009.1 has this problem for me. Not just this site, a few others as well. Also affects PiSi downloads of packages (sometimes).

Wonder if it is related to my location (Singapore, in South-East Asia)

I have tried replacing built-in DNS Nameserver entries in Pardus 2009, with my ISP's DNS IPs & my router/gateway IP (192.168.0.1). But same problem.

I'm now trying latest out Linux Mint, and no problems with browsers' long pausing & SMPlayer (other thread). Will decide whether to go back to Pardus 2008 or 2009 later, as I have done image-backups with Clonezilla.
6  Assistance / Software / 2009.2 Browsers long pauses at "waiting for" before loading websites on: June 08, 2010, 08:43:37 AM
Especially for this forum site, both firefox & opera pause very long at the "waiting for worldforum..." stage before page starts to load. Rebooted now to Windows 7 firefox no long pause problem for this site & others.

Is not all sites but a few (especially this forum). The same problem when I tried Pardus 2009.1. No problems with Pardus 2008 & Windows 7 browsers. I think it is some network setting for Pardus 2009.
7  Assistance / Software / 2009.2 PPracer unplayable on: June 08, 2010, 08:07:14 AM
In PPracer game, the penguin keeps going full left when no keys are pressed. No problem with same game in Pardus 2008.

I checked Configuration > Keyboard 1, it is normal. But Configuration > Keyboard 2 causes the game to exit.

Thanks,

Btw, when writing this post why is every word underlined in red?

8  Assistance / Software / 2009.2 Juk minor problem on: June 08, 2010, 07:17:56 AM
Hi, in Juk I prefer to arrange by Album in descending order. But after exit & re-open JuK, the arrangement is always back to Artist descending. In Pardus 2007 & 2008, JuK remembers my preferred arrangement.

Thanks.
9  Assistance / Software / [solved] Re: 2009.2 Boot Manager cannot change default on: June 08, 2010, 06:54:36 AM
Thanks for all the information given.

Thanks kalwisti for providing a workaround. If I require to edit anything else at root (touchwood! I hope no more), I'll definitely give it a try. Smiley
10  Assistance / Software / Re: 2009.2 Boot Manager cannot change default on: June 08, 2010, 00:37:50 AM
In Dolphin, when I'm at /boot/grub/ and open Terminal, I tried
- entering "su" & password
- then "kwrite edit grub.conf"

but I get this error "bash: kwrite: command not found". How come?

I had to copy "grub.conf" file to my Home directory, to change 1st line "default 0" to "default 1". Then open Terminal:
- enter "su" & password
- then "cp grub.conf /boot/grub/" to copy & overwrite the file

What does "bash: kwrite: command not found" error mean?
11  Assistance / Software / 2009.2 Kicker Menu slow after fglrx installed on: June 08, 2010, 00:09:43 AM
Hi,

After I installed fglrx for my onboard HD3300 gpu, the Kicker Menu responds very much slower when clicked. If I changed to Classic Menu Style, it is OK almost instant. How can I make Kicker Menu not so slow with fglrx?
12  Assistance / Software / 2009.2 SMPlayer problem on: June 07, 2010, 23:59:05 PM
Hi, SMPlayer in fullscreen mode, I have no problems at all. But in normal window mode, only a small portion of video is shown.

Before & after I installed fglrx driver for my onboard ATI HD3300 gpu, it is the same problem.
13  Assistance / Software / [solved] 2009.2 Boot Manager cannot change default on: June 07, 2010, 23:51:15 PM
Hi, I cannot tick Windows as default boot choice. It unticks itself & only Pardus 2009.2 can be set as default. This did not happen in Pardus 2007 & 2008.

Thanks.
14  Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Need help with Pardus 2009, ATI HD 3300 onboard on: July 20, 2009, 22:31:30 PM
I've been using Pardus 2008 for more than a year now. But I'm still a beginner since it was so easy almost perfect Smiley. Tried Pardus 2009 but met with alot of problems, appreciate all help & suggestions.

1. Install & 1st boot & auto login ok. Kaptan ran, setup wireless ok. But if I restart, I can't get to desktop anymore. IIRC, the last line was "# services starting". After I type username, password, then "startx" it goes to desktop.

2. The Shutdown & Restart options are missing from Leave tab, but they were there on 1st boot. I have to use Terminal & type command to shutdown or restart.

3. What driver for ATI HD 3300 onboard graphics? In Pardus 2008, I'm able to set 1920 x 1080 60Hz after "fglrx" driver was installed. For Pardus 2009 I couldn't find "fglrx" driver. Output is listed as HDMI-0 but I'm using DVI actually. I leave it at default, but don't know the default driver being used. There is "ati", "radeon" and "radeon hd" in the manual listings though.

4. I think my screen is already at 1920 x 1080, although resolution is "Auto" and refresh rate is "Auto" (and refresh can't be changed at all). But when I checked the resolution drop down list, there is no 1920 x 1080 setting. Even if I choose "ati", "radeon" or "radeon hd" driver (logout, then "startx" again), still no 1920 x 1080 setting listed.

5. How to change my User's picture? "Not allowed by Administrator" was the error msg, iirc.

6. How to change Firefox buttons (forward, back, reload, stop, home, new tab etc)? Love them in Pardus 2008, not liking those with Pardus 2009.

7. Amarok was not installed, but I see it's available in Package Manager. So Amarok not installed by default is correct?

Sorry for my long laundy list. I really really like 2008, want to carry on with Pardus. If anyone has Pardus 2009 working well with AMD 790GX board or similar, I'd really like to hear if you had any trouble or how you fixed it. Thanks.

My mainboard is Biostar TA790GX3 A2+, http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/t-series/introduction.php?S_ID=376
