General / General topics / Pardus 2008.2 support schedule

Just wondering if anyone could tell me how long Pardus 2008.2 will be supported? It seems to fit a lot of my needs more so than the 2009 version does, so it'd be great to know if I could hold onto it for a while longer or not.

Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Problem with package manager updating and installing packages
|
on: January 12, 2010, 02:45:11 AM

I've recently installed Pardus 2009 and get the following error message when trying to update Pardus packages or install a new package:
check_timestamp regets are not implemented in this ver of urlgrabber. Please report this.
I've looked around the forums but was unable to find anyone with a similar problem. I tried using pisi clean and rebuilding the database but neither of those had any effect. Any help with my issue would be greatly appreciated.

Assistance / Installing Pardus / Pardus KDE4

I was wondering where I could find the download location for Pardus KDE4? The main Pardus download location doesn't seem to link to it. Am I totally missing it, or is there another spot to get it from?

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Pardus Firewall
|

Just a quick question, I was wondering if I needed to enable the firewall that comes with Pardus? After looking a little I saw that linux distros are already protected by something called iptables. Does Pardus have this, and if it does, do I need to turn on the firewall that Pardus has?

I don't think there is a way to install .deb packages on Pardus. There is a way to extract .rpm source packages though. Is the source code of the program you want to install not available for download ?
Turns out the program was actually available through the package manager. Thanks for the help.. I need to get use to having a handy location to get programs

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Re: Moving Music to and from iPod

Wanted to add that if I were you I would not start engineering my own iPod Touch firmware and would prefer waiting for new Amarok or Songbird relaeses that support your iPod Touch as is !
You never know what side-effects can occur when you change the firmware as mentioned (do all Apps still work etc etc)...
Thank you , I don't really know anything about this myself, so wasn't sure if I'd find the right stuff via google. I think I'll probably just wait instead of messing around with the iPod.

"Using Amarok to transfer music to iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (models introduced in 2008) and all other models of iPod Touch and iPhone that have been upgraded to firmware 2.x requires the phone to be jailbroken, you must edit the file /System/Library/Lockdown/Checkpoint.xml on the phone, finding the key DBVersion and changing its value from a 4 to a 2[1]. Then follow the instructions as for firmware 1.x (sshfs or FUSE)."
I've tried some of the other methods without much success. I want to try this way, but I don't really understand how I go about editing the file. Is this required for the iPod 2.x software as well, and if it is, how do I go about doing this?

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / [Solved] Installing .deb
|

I tried downloading a program earlier to use, but the install file was in the format .deb. Is there a way to install .deb files, or maybe convert them into a file-type that Pardus can install?

Make sure nvidia driver is selected - instead of nv - in Display Manager (in Tasma > System) and reboot your computer.
Thank you so much! It's working perfectly now.

Hello and welcome Hastings101,
You should try the newest nvidia driver, which is nvidia 180.
After installing this, I noticed that the card didn't seem to be performing right. After searching a little I found a way to check how it was performing using a command 'glxgears' inside the Terminal program. For some reason, instead of the framerate being in the four or five thousands, it's only a constant 200. Any chance you might know what's wrong?
