1  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: January 17, 2012, 22:14:39 PM
If it not will end. How about this:

"Ladies and gentlemen, as you all know as pardus project is stopped for the
moment, one other important point is developers have lost their jobs... I
believe there is no official employer now or may be 3-5 person.."

If they have lost their jobs, how can the project continue? Can be difficult get good developers back just like that.

i dont know. i only wrote tubitak's official anouncement. turkish pardus community make pressure to a clear anouncement and roadmap.

TUBITAK officially anounced pardus project will not end. this is only a transformation period. we are making pressure to TUBITAK for much information. i guess very soon they will make new informations about pardus.

Why do some people think that that "electronic toys" are the answer to education?  If you are old enough, it used to be overhead projectors, 35 mm slides, and/or 8 mm films.  How did people learn before electricity?

classic politicians. they never think wisely, they always think slightly and do populist things. they think machines will solve all problems over educational system. fools...

it is planned to use computer technology more efficiently at school education with pads, smart boards etc...
teachers use smart boards for lessons and students will use pads or computers for interactive lessons instead of books and notebooks. (ofcourse theese are politicians' thoughts. i prefer books and notebooks Smiley).

this project called "fatih". until a few days ago, windows was the prefered OS at the project contract. a few days ago teknokedi.com (unofficial blog of tubitak workers i guess) anounced pardus is the prefered OS instead of windows.

maybe we can do it for pardusworldforum unoficially. i think, many people meet and follow pardus from here, not from official web site.

do you mean, you wanna install a forum on your localhost? if you do, then you must install apache server, phpmyadmin and mysql packages from pisi... after that you can download smf (or any other forum software) and copy files under /var/www/localhost/htdocs. to start smf installation type browser to  http://localhost/

Gölge,

I apologize. You didn't do or say anything to offend me. When I don't take my medicine I misinterpret things or read things into something that might not even be there and it's hard to tell. I hope you can forgive me.

I appreciate all your work and I have great respect for everyone working to make the best distro even better.

It's good to be back and I promise I will take my meds consistently from now on.
Craig

no problem mate...
11  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Pardus 2011 + XFCE [Nusrat] released on: March 22, 2011, 22:49:04 PM
i deleted link of nusrat. may be he cant realised that nusrat is a museum ship about wwI. cos i cant find any other sensible answer.

I was surprised to see the turn taken in this discussion thread, and (like golge and Michiel) am puzzled as to what's going on. Since it appears that Craig has left, we can only guess ... However, my guess is that it may have something to do with the name of the new Xfce release.

After doing some searching via Google (and with the help of Google Translate), I found the following:

Quote
This version is the name of the 18 March Martyrs' Day, within the meaning Nusrat ship is mine.

Source: http://tinyurl.com/494unv7

(Google Translate version of this original Turkish page:

http://comakp.blogspot.com/2011/03/pardus-2011-xfce-nusrat.html )

----- Some background information (in English) -----

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nusret_(ship)
(Brief) Wikipedia article on the ship Nusrat

http://en.wikipedia.or/wiki/Aviation_Martyrs%27_Monument#Commemoration_day
(Brief) Wikipedia article on Martyrs' Memorial Day

So perhaps he was offended by the "militaristic" release name and nationalistic-patriotic overtones. I acknowledge that it is a departure from the (endangered) animal-theme release names we have seen from the Pardus project in the past. Since I'm not Turkish, it is difficult for me to put this into context and know whether the intention is militaristic or not ...  (Maybe I'm totally naive, but it appears that the idea of Martyrs' Memorial Day is very similar to the Memorial Day we observe here in the U.S. And IMHO, that holiday is not about glorifying war, but a somber reminder of the human cost of warfare, and a way to remember the soliders who gave their lives in the service of their country).

At any rate, I regret that this happened but I do not believe that you wrote anything inappropriate, golge. So I think your conscience can be clear.

It's probably best to let this topic drop and move on to other things.

i think there is a misunderstanding about google translate cos nusrat is not a Martyrs' Day name. it is a museum ship about wwI which served at this war. every person visiting Gallipoli sees fearce of war clearly.

with saying "name of the 18 march Martyrs' Day" it means in the memory of 18 march also release date. on the other hand Martyrs' Day is a day which Turks and Anzaks memorialize together on Galipoli, so i think there is no ultra-nationalist feelings under name selection. contrary it can be only peaceful feelings. but i guess they cant realise it can be misunderstand.

so i guess the real guilty is google translate Smiley before trusting google translate we must ask each other...
12  Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Re: XFCE or Gnome with 2011 on: March 22, 2011, 21:10:16 PM
I have noticed that Gnome and XFCE are both in the repos of 2011. I'm just wondering what the proper way of installing the Gnome and XFCE desktop's are in pardus. I'm used to packages for installing DE's not each file separately. My wife has an older laptop that runs KDE 4.5 a bit slow (AMD 2800+, 512 RAM) and Gnome and XFCE seem to work better on it from other distros.

there is an project for multi-desktop support for pardus. fluxbox, lxde, xcfe beta versions of pardus has already released. gnome in process i guess. you can find pardus +xcfe release here... but do not forget it is still beta.

on the other hand if you dont wanna wait gome project, you can install gnome packages via pisi.

-Add correct gnome depot to your system.

Code:
32Bit: sudo pisi ar gnome http://gnome.brkclskn.org/2011/i686/pisi-index.xml.xz -y
      64Bit: sudo pisi ar gnome http://gnome.brkclskn.org/2011/x86_64/pisi-index.xml.xz -y

-Add gdm user ve group to your system

Code:
sudo /usr/sbin/groupadd -g 114 gdm
      sudo /usr/sbin/useradd -c "GDM" -d /var/lib/gdm -s /bin/bash -u 105 -g gdm gdm

    -Update your system

Code:
sudo pisi up -y

After installation:

  -install pardus-default-settings-gnome package

Code:
sudo pisi it pardus-default-settings-gnome

  -Only base packages installed with codes above, to install all pacakages;

Code:
sudo pisi it -c gnomeproject -y

-Finally restart your system and on gdm screen select your session type "GNOME" and login...

gölge -- I hope you will keep posting updates and news here in the English section.  Some of us are wondering about when KDE 4.6 might be ready.

i guess pardus team waiting for kde 4.6 feedbacks, which will make clear kde 4.6 is really stable enough or not. it seems kde 4.6 will integrate at pardus 2011.1, but this is only a guess  of course, not an official info.
