Thanks David-that's really good news!

Sadly, after several (5?6?) reboots my little black lines are back :'( :'(

Yes- I hoped that the nvidia update would fix it, but it didn't.

Not a major problem, of course.  It's probably a sign of how few problems I have with Pardus that I can spend time and energy on this!

I can confirm your workaround fixes the problem- until a reboot, of course.

Best wishes,

Andy

Ok- found a workaround for this:

System Settings>Windows Behaviour>Screen Edges> De-select "Maximise windows by dragging to the top of the screen"  and "Tile windows by dragging them to the side of the screen"

Apply, then log out and back in.  No lines on the screen (at least on my computer, after 3 reboots)! Grin

Of course if you use the screen edges to maximise or to tile windows, you're not going to like this.

Anyone else to report that this works for them?  Lisa I can't find the post, but did I see you talking about a similar problem on the board a few weeks ago? (I may have imagined this of course.)

I'll add this to the bug report, once I've remembered my login details

Glad it works Glyn.

All the best

Just to confirm:

I've just tried this in Pardus, and it (almost) works.  I've got the tray icon, showing the number of unread emails.

However, when I reboot, the window is maximised, even though I've stipulated "start the program minimised in the preferences.  After that, it behaves.

Maybe you can live with that?  Or maybe you'll need to seek out an older version of Thunderbird.  I use thunderbird_3.0.10 on Ubuntu, which works perfectly (3.1.7 is current in Pardus 2009.2).

One of the reasons I use kmail!  Best of luck.

Hi Glyn

Have you tried the Firetray extension for Thunderbird?  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/firetray/ It shows the number of unread emails in the inbox, by marking the tray icon.

I use it in Ubuntu (I prefer kmail in Pardus).  However, it doesn't always play that well with the latest builds of Thunderbird, so I have to use an older version of Tbird.  That might be difficult to track down for Pardus, I guess.

I can let you know the exact versions I use, if you like?  I'd give it a try, and see whether it works for you.

Anyone got any news regarding the upgrade-manager yet?  I expect the developers have been busy with the corporate edition.

Many thanks,

Thanks for the update, atolboo!

Aha!

Thanks atolboo, that makes me feel better.  We're not the only ones then!

I don't think I've anything to add to the bug report.  Sounds like the same thing though.

Got to go out now- thanks for your help

Going to have to go out now.  I'll have another look in the morning.  It's definitely something to do with that mounted vfat drive.

Whooo!

So I unmounted my fat32 drive (my data drive, shared with windows) before rebooting and hey presto it worked.  I mounted the drive through the gui in disk manager.  fsab looks like this:

UUID=4505-6C39 /media/DATA\040DISK vfat utf8,quiet,dmask=007,gid=6,shortname=mixed,fmask=117 0 0

I have to confess I've no idea what the second part of that means (dmask, gid, shortname, fmask).  I'll have an experiment and let you know.

Nope- no nfs mounts.

Still scratching my head over this one.  Tried a few things, like changing the video drivers, but it does it every time, If I shutdown in verbose mode, without the Plymouth splash, it stops/jams just after it unmounts the mounted drives though, so you may be onto something.

I'll have a play, now, and report back

Hi James, sipiatti

Not much point in me trying the older driver then!

Thanks for your inputs

Hi Ed

Are you using the proprietary nvidia driver too?  I wondered about downgrading to an older driver through the package manager and trying that instead of the current driver.

I get a whole lot of parallel lines all the way across the top of the screen, but only when any window is open, either maximised or not.  It's not a show-stopper, but it looks pretty bad.  If there's a maximised window open the lines appear along the top of that window instead.

I'm going out tonight, but I'll do some more googling tomorrow morning.  I'll let you know if I find a fix.

Andy
