16  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Shutdown problems with Pardus 2011 on: January 26, 2011, 20:19:24 PM
Could anyone help me with which log file I need to read in order to see why my new 2011 installation won't shut down cleanly please?

It starts to shut down as one would expect, but then stops completely at the Plymouth screen (the circle animation stops).  Only a hard shutdown using the power key then gets me out of this.

I've had a look through some of the logs in /var for clues, but I don't really know what I'm looking for (perhaps I should be posting in the beginners section, even though I've used Pardus for 3 years now!)

Happy to provide any hardware information if required.  Nvidia graphics card installed, but it does this with either the proprietary driver or the Nouveau one.

Many thanks!
17  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Nvidia driver on Pardus 2011 on: January 26, 2011, 20:10:29 PM
Anyone else found a problem with small artifacts across the top of the screen when using the Nvidia driver on Pardus 2011?  A whole set of small, horizontal lines within the top few millimeters of the top of the screen.

No such problem with the Nouveau driver (but I do like my kwin effects  Grin)

I seem to remember this happening on Mepis a long time ago.  I can't remember how (or if?) I fixed it.

Thanks in advance
18  General / Wish list / GoogleEarth for Pardus 2011 on: January 26, 2011, 20:06:40 PM
I've spent a while trying to install using the method in the wiki (installing a googleearthlinux.bin) but couldn't manage to make it work.

No hurry, but I do use it for work quite a bit!

Many thanks

Odd- yes "ls -all /var/lib/pisi/index/Pardususer" gives the result:

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root    4096 2010-09-23 11:58 .
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root    4096 2010-09-23 10:39 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1833624 2010-09-22 08:47 pisi-index.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  158519 2010-09-21 10:05 pisi-index.xml.bz2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root      40 2010-09-21 10:05 pisi-index.xml.bz2.sha1sum
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root       0 2010-09-22 08:47 pisi-index.xml.bz2.sig.part
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root     121 2010-09-23 11:58 uri
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root      61 2010-09-23 11:58 uri

Not sure why that's different to last time (maybe a typo?)

"more /var/lib/pisi/info/repos"

gives no result at all- just the word "REPOS" Embarrassed

Good morning Atolboo.

This is the output:

ls: cannot access /var/lib/pisi/index/Pardususer: No such file or directory

25  Assistance / Software / Re: Package-manager won't start on: September 22, 2010, 18:45:56 PM
No- still the same problem.  if I try to remove the repo I get

Repository Pardususer does not exist. Cannot remove

or

Repository pardususer does not exist. Cannot remove

but then "pisi up" gives:

Updating repositories
Updating repository: pardus-2009.1
pisi-index.xml.bz2.sha1sum     (40.0  B)100%    398.64 KB/s [00:00:00] [complete]
pardus-2009.1 repository information is up-to-date.
Updating repository: contrib
pisi-index.xml.bz2.sha1sum     (40.0  B)100%    425.56 KB/s [00:00:00] [complete]
contrib repository information is up-to-date.
Updating repository: Pardususer
System error. Program terminated.
[Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/lib/pisi/index/Pardususer /uri'

So the update command thinks it should update the pardususer repository, even though it doesn't exist, and there is no '/var/lib/pisi/index/Pardususer /uri'
 Sad

Tried your suggestions, thanks but I still get the message about "Pardususer/ uri"
27  Assistance / Software / Re: Package-manager won't start on: September 22, 2010, 14:32:12 PM
Hi PhiX- thanks for your help

pisi lr gives:

[i]pardus-2009.1 [active]
   http://packages.pardus.org.tr/pardus-2009.1/pisi-index.xml.bz2
contrib [active]
   http://packages.pardus.org.tr/contrib-2009/pisi-index.xml.bz2
Pardususer  [active]
System error. Program terminated.
[Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/lib/pisi/index/Pardususer /uri'
Please use 'pisi help' for general help.
[/i]

pisi remove-repo pardususer gives:

Program terminated.
Repository pardususer does not exist. Cannot remove.

Use --debug to see a traceback

And I can't get the GUI to start, so I can't try to disable the pardususer repo that way either!

28  Assistance / Software / [solved] Package-manager won't start on: September 22, 2010, 13:05:18 PM
I have the package manager set to start in the tray at startup.  When it attempts to refresh the upgradeable packages list it complained that it couldn't find the "pardususer" files (sorry- I can't remember exactly what it said).

I then unticked the pardususer repo and rebooted.  Now package manager won't start at all.  The error message when I try to start from the command line is:

IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/lib/pisi/index/Pardususer /uri'
package-manager(1513): Communication problem with  "package-manager" , it probably crashed.
Error message was:  "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name tr.org.pardus.package-manager was not provided by any .service files" "

I've tried to reinstall package-manager, but I get a similar message.  Anyone any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Andrew

That's really helpful- thanks.  I'll have a go tomorrow.
30  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Startup and shutdown problems on: April 11, 2010, 14:41:38 PM
Brilliant- that worked, thanks!

Is there a quick way to transfer my personal settings across to this new user, or should I set up everything again?  I suppose I don't want to transfer whatever the problem was from the old user /home to the new.

Or is there something in my old user /home that I could delete in order to get rid of the problem?

I hope that makes sense Huh?

Many thanks!
