The message on the mailing-list is from Semen Cirit, working at TIBITAK. So that is an official announcement. But still no news about 2012 or ....? And its is now already 3 months + 1 month (january 2012) = 4 months reorganization and no development or news (only that there will be some workshop, when??).
But it is not very tactical to send a message about end of life 2011 right now (and after one year?) and not any real news about the future yet.
It is like situation in Nokia: They had their own OS (Symbian), new linux-based project (MeeGo), Qt... and (surprise) new CEO is from M$. And now Nokia is falling down. Very quickly. About Pardus: it looks like smb (may be in goverment?) decided, that the best and the only OS for Turkey is W7. Or W8.

So if 2011 reach end of life, can the community build there own update packages? There is still no sign for any new version ... so what are we gonna do as community?
About 10-20-30% of (may be I'm wrong) packages for Pardus are created by community. But packages like kernel, KDE and other are in official repository. So, it is very strange to stop updating 2011 without any news about 2012. We are reading mail-lists, but not official announcements By the way: linux kernel is 3.2.2 (stable version) and http://kde.org/announcements/4.8/(it is about updating software)

I think a Pardus Fork would be a good Idea. I will use Pardus for now, If it ends I will get either Chakra or Debian. Might I remind you that there are few discontinued distros that died and got continuations/forks like MOPSlinux = Agilia QIlinux = openmamba opensolaris = openindiana
Btw I have been following this thread for a while, I was waiting for my account to be accepted by the mods. From Malta (Probably the only user in this country)
Welcome I think, we should wait for our friends from Turkey and follow http://www.pardusworld.com/ They are not going to fork. Fork is a last, critical stage. I hope, people with $$ will understand, that national (and international) desktop distro is the best way than using M$

Just installed updates. And I know one of them with unique package-system Can you tell us distro name? It is an amateur distro, its roots are in Slackware (several years ago), its name is here: http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=agiliaP.S. I don't like them, but they have their own package-manager. And they have only 12 developers, including testers, mainteiners and designers Or look at PCLinuxOS: over 12000 independent packages. They use apt-rpm system

That is not good news from you John A, why leaving already?
And using Windows 7 ... sorry, but that is never a good choice.
Pardus and Linux is more then just OS, if you think about how it all works then it is more then just develop an OS.
What is mean with that is a way of living and working that is different then the old economy we have know.
People like to help each other and that is also the way Linux is created.
About distros: I know active distros with 3-4-5 developers. And I know one of them with unique package-system (like Pardus) and it has MORE packages. So, the only problem is a developers of unique soft, like PiSi.

If the new Corporate will use KDE 4 (or maybe Gnome) or maybe two versions (desktop and server), then its ok with me Pardus 2011 is one of the best KDE4-based systems. It will be just silly to forget about it Look at reviews They are all about Pardus 2011, not Corporate. Look at Fedora/RH OpenSUSE/SLED I hope, smb from Turkey will read this post

May be, but not in Russia. I am a developer in a very large company. We are moving from windows-only to cross-platform development. And this is for partners from other countries.

ah, that would be somethin': governmental projects not only funded with tax dough but also by gifts... or do we perhaps like to pay them taxes, now do we? hm, interesting. sorry, no time, have to go and tell the 'dukes that rule' these boglands 'bout this Promotion is at the 1st place, for example in Russia nobody will promote Pardus, except us, russian team of promotors, translators and creators of packages. We have created a wiki-page (wikipedia), translated all and created a special site for promotion Pardus in Russia. May be, we will create our own repository. About packages: after turning on testing repository, pardususer.de and unofficial repository from Turkey, there are only about 4500 packages. I am not a creator of packages, not a maintainer, but I am not alone. You can look at it like a "tax"

Thank you for this news. Here, in Russia, we have started the new site. But look at distrowatch. Where is marketing? Where is promotion? And where are images for our new site?

Hi all! We need 2 or more free pictures about Pardus (not screenshots). 1. About community. 2. About Pardus itselft. 3. About anything with Pardus/Community.
Not very large, about 900x500 or something like this. We need them for our own site about Pardus and its community.

Thank you and thank to LinuxFanatic Now we should think, how to say managers of Pardus, that empty mail-lists are ... not so good P.S. sorry to texstar for using his famous nickname. P.P.S. Promotion will be done And forget about W7
