Hi all!. A friend of me, translator and promoter of Pardus Linux in Russia can't register at this forum. May be, I am not unique, but what happened?
48  General / Website building / Pictures on: December 23, 2011, 17:27:05 PM
Hi all!
We need 2 or more free pictures about Pardus (not screenshots).
1. About community.
2. About Pardus itselft.
3. About anything with Pardus/Community.

Not very large, about 900x500 or something like this.
We need them for our own site about Pardus and its community.

Thank you and thank to LinuxFanatic Smiley
Now we should think, how to say managers of Pardus,
that empty mail-lists are ... not so good Smiley

P.S. sorry to texstar for using his famous nickname.

P.P.S. Promotion will be done Smiley

And forget about W7 Wink

All this EoL appears to be hoax. do u think if there is any such thing happening it will not be announced?

In the Turkish forum I saw discussion on P2012!
I don't speak turkish at all.
Do you? Google translator is useless here - results are unreadable for me.
If yes, can you tell us about it and
can you tell us about developers.
51  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 13:07:51 PM
It will be shame if Pardus development is stoped.I hope in that case someone will make a fork so that idae continue to live.I will not delete Pardus until I see official message of discontinuing.I also hope than from our reactions someone in TÜBİTAK will understand that Pardus mean something to people uotside of Turkey too,so having that in mind hopefuly they will continue with Pardus development.

It won't be stopped Smiley
If something terrible will happen, we will find our new "texstar".
Many "texstar"s  Wink
But I hope it will never happen, so we are waiting for news from TÜBİTAK.
52  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 11:50:29 AM
Pardus got this licence:

All products developed by TÜBİTAK/BİLGEM released under terms of 2nd generation General Public License (GPL v2). Pardus compiles a number of free softwares as well. You may find all the licenses at source repository.

So I suppose it could be a fork if someone want to do one. PCLinuxOS and Mageia was developed from Mandriva.
Anyway best to wait for a official announcement what will happend.

Yes, Pardus can be forked. But look at Slackware. #16. Based on ... nothing Smiley Like Pardus.
We will wait, but we want managers of Pardus project to find out about us.
So, until official announcement will happen, we will promote Pardus.
May be at weekend our team will show a new site of russian community.

And yes, everything is simple (if you have a team):
Promotion (in internet + in real) + more packages + bugfixing.
In Russia we will promote as much as we can.
53  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 11:29:12 AM
I hope everything remains stable as I just installed it on a friend's PC with a lot of praise for it  Smiley

3 or 4 devs leaving should not be an issue, especially if this is being sponsored by a govt entity.

I am definitely NOT going to Windows, come what may! Windows is one of the worst OSes on this planet.  Wink
+1 Smiley The same here. We are still going to promote Pardus in Russia.
News like "alpha", "beta", "pre" and so on + more packages + bugfixing and
Pardus is in top 20 Smiley
54  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 11:22:02 AM
When Pardus stops one only can choose from the very big ones if one does not want to encounter similar phenomenons a couple of years later. There are so many distributions with a relatively small development team, thus the risk of ending up is great.

If this would be the case I guess I would go back to OpenSuSE, since Fedora is more Gnome based and Ubuntu as well and I always felt more confortable with native KDE distro 's but that's just a matter of personal taste.

I always felt Open SuSE and the previous SuSE were too "big" as default install components concern, for a beginner you hardly knew what all these services and servers you could edit in the Preferences settings really meant. However a big advantage is that OpenSuSE like the Buntu's and Fedora have lots of software packages available.

Somehow sad news...this thread...but as it never expanded actively beyond Turkey...it would not fully surprise me at all if Pardus vanishes from the desktop in time..it's a pity

Have you heard about PCLinuxOS? I think, you have. It was made by 1 man. And it is #7 now, so I thinkg it will never die. I don't know how many people are in PCLinuxOS's team now, but it has over 13000 packages (compare to Pardus).
The main problem of Pardus - it has no promotion. And few packages.
55  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 10:19:13 AM
I will continue with Windows 7 for full time.

Hi John A,

that I will do also, if Pardus real go down.

Hi all again
I hope, managers from TÜBİTAK will read this.
56  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 09:57:24 AM
Pardus is going down, because it was stopped
by developers and maintainers.
It is the only reason.
A friend of me has created a new site about
Pardus (it is not 100% finished, but almost).
So, what...  Huh?
Another "mageia"?

And the last moment: KDE 4.7.4 is here,
KDE 4.8 is a stable (for beta) nice-looking DE.
I don't know about the world, but in Russia
Linux is becoming really popular.
(May be you have heard about "national OS").

Pardus is much better than this "national OS".
57  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 09:44:48 AM
Well, after reading reviews (something like 9/10)
and from my own point of view Pardus has only
2-3 problems:
1. Its package-manager design is not good enough.
2. And, of course, too few packages (compare to
top 10).
After resolving these problems, Pardus can
be in top 10 without any problems, I think.
So, I don't understand:
employ 3-4 developers and 3-4 maintainers and
the goal will be reached.  Roll Eyes
58  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 09:05:32 AM
As I understood, 3 (or 4?) main developers have left the project and now
Pardus 2011.2 will be the last version of Pardus Linux for desktops.
We are waiting for official comments from Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey.

By the way, look at new terrible design of the official site:
It looks like a bad joke.
59  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: December 21, 2011, 08:44:22 AM
What do you mean "hopping"?
As I see, no more new packages in "testing" repository.
Pardus 2012 will be ... only corporate?
How can 3 developers stop and kill the distro, we all like?
We don't want to see something like this:
60  Assistance / Software / Re: Desura on: November 20, 2011, 17:48:56 PM
Coming soon? Thank you Smiley No need to ask Pardus' developers.
When I am talking about new OS, my friends have a choice: between <censored>7 and Pardus  Wink
