2  Assistance / Software / Re: Scribus for Pardus 2009 on: October 25, 2009, 16:40:58 PM
Hello,

here the answer of one of the developer: Wink

Quote
You can bulid pisi package from Pardus svn. Just run this command;

sudo pisi build
http://svn.pardus.org.tr/pardus/2009/devel/office/misc/scribus/pspec.xml

It's better than compile from source code. I tried it on updated Pardus 2009
system, looking stable.

Greetings
bubbel

This worked perfectly for me! Thanks for the info. --Carl
3  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / [SOLVED] Changing my computer name on: October 25, 2009, 03:39:08 AM
My computer, under Pardus, presents itself as "username-pardus" in the login splash-screen and in Terminal; while that is not such a bad thing, it doesn't really fit my style, nor does the title-bar for KDE launcher which gives "MyName (username) on username-pardus". In SuSE, changing the localhost name in /etc/hosts and setting the name in /etc/hostname does the trick. But not in Pardus! So, could someone please direct me how to change my computer name to something else, like "amon-ethir". Thanks, in advance.  Wink
4  Assistance / Software / Re: Systems locks during package upgrade, PiSi no longer functional on: September 08, 2009, 04:21:02 AM
Hi Caitlyn,

Sorry to hear that.  Did you try: pisi clean (cleans stale locks)  pisi clear (clears cache)  pisi check (checks installation) and then pisi rdb and then pisi ur?

If no such help there, then maybe go to System>History Manager and take back to point of a snapshot before this problem happened.   Then do the above pisi rebuld data base.  I'm wondering if the repositories are in a state of flux.  I was told this lots of times at open suse, to wait on updating repositores for a week or so.  Easy said.  Grin
Hi Lisa. Thanks for the idea Cheesy; it worked for me. It found three "corrupt" items in the db, and now all seems to work as it should (at least with Package Manager). --Carl
5  Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Problem with Pisi on: September 07, 2009, 21:57:55 PM
In trying to install some packages, I received the following Pisi error:

org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)

What do I need to do to be able to install packages?
Thanks for any help.

When you want to brwose the repo in your webbroser you should delete the pisi-index.xml.bz2 part at the end of the URL, when you want to add a certain repository in your locakl pavkage manager then you must add that pisi-index.xml.bz2 part otherwise the Package Manager will not recognise it as a repository.

So in Firefox you should visit;
http://packages.pardus.org.tr/contrib-2009

Thanks.

When I try to open the link(s), I get the following error message:

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: http://packages.pardus.org.tr/contrib-2009/pisi-index.xml.bz2
Line Number 1, Column 8:BZh91AY&SY'^QIG|~`

What am I doing wrong? { I am using Firefox 3.5.1 from Pardus 2009 }
Thanks,

8  General / Introduce yourself / Greetings from America! on: August 10, 2009, 19:34:40 PM
I have been a Windows user since version 1.03, but the latest foibles of Vista have forced me to look for a better alternative to run my i686 box.
I read Marcel Gommans' favorable review of Pardus and decided to give it a go.
I like the easy install and clean interface. So far, it is a fairly smooth transition, although I find a few things missing from the package manager. With time, and a little help, I should be able to learn how to install programs that might not be in the PM.
I am now using Pardus for 60% of my computer work.
