16  General / The Pub / New Ubuntu 10.04 on: May 01, 2010, 15:52:31 PM
Hi everybody!

New Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 is here. Has anyone tested it?
I am of course a big fan of Pardus and KDE, but I think it's good to know what's happening around us Smiley
For instance something I noticed in a friend laptop running the previous ubuntu was the really good bootin time.

Have a nice day!

It also happened to me with microphone, but fortunately I found it out before posting  Cheesy
18  Assistance / Software / Re: No Sound Recording With Audacity on: January 31, 2010, 21:48:57 PM

maybe you should check if any other program using sound is opened at the same time than audacity? I know it's weird, but in both of my computer audacity got recordings troubles when other programs are using the sound server (even firefox). If I just close them and restart audacity, everything runs fine.

and off course you have to enable microfone in kmix Smiley
edit: forget this last line, I didn't see it was a radio recording, and also it's gonna be difficult to close everything...  Undecided

Woowww, this time you got it atolboo!
I didn't see this option, I thought the button was the same than the configure above.
So, I put the philips model and resolution set up fine this time!

Thank you a lot, the computer is almost okay, I still have some minor bugs including bad shutting down, but I will do it later.

Again thank you for all posts, have a nice evening.

As I said, I already trying the output values in the screen panel with no effect. So Pardus seems to know these values are my preference but cannot use them, and krandtray doesn't even propose them, even when selected and applied in display manager.

So I will try some other stuff from other distribution and write a bug report.
Thank you all.
21  Assistance / Hardware / Re: another resolution nvidia problem on: January 29, 2010, 01:11:11 AM

I tried it, but the problem is krandrtray doesn't even offer me this resolution. It just proposes 640*380 and something lower and only proposes 50hz as refresh rate (it should be 60) (The correct resolution is well selected in display manager)
So I really think I should add a modeline or something to xorg.conf to force resolution, but how do I do this in pardus? I already tried after reading of other distribution problem but I should have missed something because it had no effect. I read Pardus detects automatically the good xorg settings but in my case it didnt, so how could I force it, any other idea?

Monitor is philips 170s4FG, so it's quite an old model as the computer is.

> Kalwisti

I already tried it with nouveau and nv uninstalled so I don't think their existence have any influence. U should no worry with your new computer, it's the first time I have this kind of problem and I think it's because my hardware is quite old.
22  Assistance / Hardware / Re: another resolution nvidia problem on: January 28, 2010, 02:50:52 AM
I am not a Pardus guru, but I know how to select a driver in the Display manager Smiley

So my problem is that even with correct nvidia driver selected (in my case nvidia173), I cannot force the resolution (in the screen panel) to switch to 1280*1024, the nvidia driver which is working good and fast is sticking in low resolution (640*480), even after reboot. Xorg is saying 1280 is my preference, but it's not able to use it. Other drivers (nv and nouveau) have no problem with resolution, but cause graphic problems and are slower. My card is geforce 5200 and monitor is a Philips (I can check the model tomorrow if needed).

Any idea?
23  Assistance / Hardware / [SOLVED] another resolution nvidia problem on: January 27, 2010, 22:46:24 PM
Hello everybody,

I am trying to install pardus on my father's desktop pc. Everything is getting fine, but I'd like to get nvidia drivers working properly, because nv/nouveau are working slower in this computer and are messing with titlebars and some other stuf (3d disabled).
So the problem is I cannot get the resolution higher than 640*480. I already read some similar problems that were linked to updates, but this is a fresh install, and I even tried to reinstall nvidia 173 several times. Graphics card is geforce 5200. In display settings, 1280*1024 is proposed but even if I chose it it does'nt change anything. I also tried the posts that were suggesting to edit the xorg.conf adding a specific modeline, but it doesn't work too (and when I open display settings xorg.conf is remade as before).

Could anybody help me? I am using pardus 2009 anthropoides virgo.
Thank you all.

Ok, thank you atolboo, I did it and everything seems fine now!

25  Assistance / Hardware / Re: usb not recognized anymore on: December 07, 2009, 01:10:19 AM
Thank you again atolboo, it seems to be the same bug.
Sometimes it magically works, and when it's not working bluetooth and webcam are also in problem.

So I will wait for next kernel upgrade,
Have a nice day everybody!

James T>

So I checked the log and I have no message at all when I plug any of my 3 pendrive in any of my 3 ports.
I suppose I did it good because if I disconnect my wifi for example the log is writing it normal.

What is also weird is that pendrives are not even doing the light signal, one of them does it very quickly, the others not at all, but anyway none of them is doing the classical blinking.

So I really don't have any idea, everything else seems to work normal. It looks like they are desactivated or something, but as far as I know, usb port are not like wifi or webcam in laptops, they cannot be disabled by inadvertance. Or am I wrong?

Any ideas?

Haha, thank you I already spent some time on this this morning, and as I said I could upgrade finally Smiley
27  Assistance / Hardware / [solved] usb not recognized anymore on: November 30, 2009, 16:48:29 PM

I have no idea where is the problem coming from, because I didn't use my pendrive for some weeks. The thing is I needed it yesterday and it was not working. So I took another one and it was also not detected. I don't know exactly if it doesn't mount or it's not detected, I also tried with my cell phone and I cable, and nothing is detected at all (normally there is no problem), and also with a SDcard.

Maybe I am missing something?
Anyway, I just upgraded pardus today (and discover dbus error problem, what a lucky day Smiley), and nothing has changed.

I don't know what I have to test, so any help is appreciated.
Thank you.
28  Assistance / Hardware / Re: hard drive clicking [solved] on: November 16, 2009, 00:12:38 AM

I had the feeling it was too much because of the annoying noise.
After reading this (its in french), I was able to compare my values:
My loadcycle is increasing each minute, but I am pretty sure it's not so bad now regarding the values in the article, so I will wait some months and compare again.

By the way in ubuntu french forums some msi wind users reported this bug also, especially on batterie mode, so I think it worths a check.

Thanks everybody and have a nice evening!
29  Assistance / Hardware / [solved] hard drive clicking on: November 13, 2009, 02:00:05 AM
Hi everybody,

My laptop (msi wind u100) hardrive is "clicking" (even when plugged in), sometimes 2 or 3 times per minute, sometimes less. I don't think this is normal, and it's probably the same bug users in other distros reported some years ago.

I knew you can fix it some way by using hdparm, but I have no real experience in the terminal, so if someone already did this in pardus, maybe it could tell me a simple way to reduce these clicks, or at least to check if my hard drive is not getting old too fast.

Thank you all

Okk I understand, sorry.

Anyone could give me the adress of the contrib-devel repository?

brokenpike asked it in the other thread but had no answer.
Thank you all.
