Hi David, Also from UK. I've been using Pardus for a while now. 2009.2 works better for me, but I am persevering with 2011 as I wait for upgrades and additions to the repos. I have tried other distros as they've been released, but keep coming back to Pardus.

What if you go to another desktop and then reduce the number of desktops to 1. Will the current desktop become desktop 1? Unfortunately the one remaining desktop is the one I don't want

I can partially solve the problem by using: Pager Settings/Virtual Desktops and checking the "Different widgets for each desktop" option. Five of my six virtual desktops are icon free, but it would be good if it could be all six

I can't reproduce this. If I drag an icon out of the Folder view widget while in desktop activity, it turns into a little plasmoid itself.
I think it did the same here to begin with, or I would have noticed sooner . I only realised yesterday that the icon was non-responsive in any way.

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Unwanted icon

When I installed 2011 I removed the desktop folder, as I prefer the look of the desktop without it (this was how I always had 2009.2). Before removing the folder I made the mistake of dragging the home icon outside the folder to the top left hand corner of my desktop, hoping that it would work as a shortcut. I now have a home folder icon that does nothing and that I cannot remove. It is unresponsive to any left or right clicking. I tried restoring the desktop folder thinking that I might be able to drag it back, but it will not be dragged. Any help would be very welcome.

Disappointing to be honest, but it's early days yet. I look forward to the repos growing as they seem very sparse at the moment, I couldn't even find a graphical unrar program such as Xarchiver or equivalent. I'm hoping that nVidia will soon release a driver that works better with the new kernel, wobbly windows are not very wobbly. Installing turned out to be less than straightforward; see http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php?topic=3582.0LibreOffice doesn't seem to work properly for me either. I still have Pardus 2009.2 on another partition and it seems much smoother by comparison, but as I said before, it's early days yet.

I hope it comes soon, because I cannot make a particular spreadsheet work with LibreOffice. It was created with OpenOffice in Pardus 2009 and I never had any problem with it, but even after I tried to recreate it from scratch with LibreOffice it got to a point when it froze up (when I tried to create a graph). There don't seem to be any alternative office programs available yet.

Thanks everybody, particularly kalwisti, who has given me the solution. Your photograph showed exactly what I was seeing and the "xorg=safe parameter has done the trick. Unfortunately I messed up a little on the partitioning and accidentally formatted part of a drive that had some films and tv shows that I had downloaded, but not yet watched. Not a disaster though, I'm sure I can find them again. Tomorrow I shall get stuck into customising my new Pardus and installing my favourite programs.

Assistance / Installing Pardus / 2011 won't install

I've been happily using 2009.2 since it's release with no problems. I've eagerly awaited the release of 2011 and downloaded the iso for the i686 installation. I burned a copy to DVD using K3B, making sure that the MD5 checksum was correct. When I try to install 2011 I can select my language choice (US English) and the option to boot from the DVD, but after a few seconds I am presented with a grey screen where all the pixels are mixed up so that I can go no further. I am guessing that my nVidia GeForce 7050 / nForce 610i graphics may be the problem. Is there anything that I can do?

Assistance / Configuring Pardus / SOLVED bzip2 update causing Iron browser to stop working
|
on: October 10, 2010, 21:02:04 PM
|
|
A couple of weeks ago I used the package manager to install some updates, one of which required an updated version of bzip2 to be installed at the same time. I soon noticed that Iron browser was not working. I used history manager to go back and Iron worked as before. Today I tried to install some different updates, including one (comar) which is listed as critical. Yet again I was required to update bzip2, and yet again it killed Iron. Has anyone else found the same problem? I really like the Iron browser, but am feeling a bit restricted when it comes to updates.
