31  Assistance / Software / [Solved] rip dvd under pardus linux on: November 07, 2008, 21:57:54 PM
hello friends,

i  have a problem. my 5 year old daughter destroys her Video DVDś. i could not explain her to handle them carefully (one is gone to trash).
So i thaught that i can rip them as ISO file to the harddisk - as backup.
this functions at some DVD. i use the program K3B.
but some DVD i can not copy. i got an error message like: failed to retrieve all css keys.

whats that? what can i do?

@ azra  -   i think it is the easiest way when you can get a usb cd drive
i tried a lot to get install or live cd on a stick but i failed.

@ michiel  -  i tried also like you and had the same results. i think in the grub stages are some path like /dev/scd and the stick is always /dev/sda or /dev/sdb ... so no solution with restringated knowlege.
i think there must be a way like you want. somebody here who knows much about grub???

... once i had installed 2007.3 on a 20 GB external usb drive - and this installation runs on an other computer. i tried this with 2008 and it did not function (maybe with failsafe it will funktion).
so you can format the stick as ext3 and install pardus on the stick at an other computer - but without gub in in MBR.
on an second stick you have to install :
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2006/03/25/install-and-boot-ultimate-boot-cd-ubcd-from-a-usb-device/
and boot the pardus stick from the UBCD-stick.

its a little tricky but it should funktion.

what Os is installed on the laptop? if a other linux is installed there than its much easier.
35  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: how can i run ACPI ?? on: November 07, 2008, 00:43:09 AM
hi azra,

thank you very very much for the tip. i deleted in /boot/grub/menu.lst the "acpi=off" section.

now everything works well.

36  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / [SOLVED] how can i run ACPI ?? on: November 06, 2008, 22:48:49 PM
Hello,

during installation 2008.1 i had problems and i was only able to install pardus 200.1 with the option ACPI off.
it seems that the AMD coolń quit does not funktion anymore - that means the CPU runs alwas in full 1800Mhz. if this depense on missing ACPI so what can i do.
how can i activate ACPI in a instllaed system?

whith pardus 2008 this was no problem.

Hello Mhmrcs,

i solved the problem like this:

for additional information:

if you want to install v4l with the script from the link of the top post you have to do:

first: install in order   "make"   and  "kernel-source" with pisi
it seems to be important that you install make at first. thats depends to a missing "Makefile" in /lib/modules/2.6.25.16-108/build  if you install otherwise (do not ask me why)
i made a reboot after install this progs (i do not know if this is neccasary)

second: install "gcc"

third: copy /bin/lsmod to /sbin/lsmod

.... then follow the introductions of the webpage

1) open a console
2) login as su
3)type: pisi it make
4)type: pisi it kernel-source
5)type: cp /bin/lsmod  /sbin/lsmod
6)type: pisi it gcc

.... then follow the introductions of the webpage: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hama_DVB-T_USB2_Stick

...then put in the dvb-t usb-stick and start kaffeine.

39  Assistance / Hardware / Re: realtek 8187 usb wireless lan adapter on: November 01, 2008, 19:53:59 PM
And I have No problems with this one.
I have no problem with the Wl-168 RTL8187 USB adaptor on my main computer.
This one is fitted with a USB 2.0 port.
This is with Pardus 2007 (with ndiswrapper) and Pardus 2008 (without ndiswrapper).

However on another (older) computer with USB 1.0 port I have problem with this same device and Pardus 2008.
I have to install Pardus 2007 on this computer to test this combination.
And I have a third computer with USB 1.0 to do the test.
Investigation continues .............
Which USB-version is your computer using?
Have a look in System>KInfoCenter with the USB-stick connected.
Maybe it has to do with the USB version or we have a bug here?
And to get more feedback use the commands from http://en.pardus-wiki.org/Configure_Wifi_Without_Network_Manager

..i tried with ndiswrapper as written in the turkisch wiki.
As my knowledge of Turkish is zero. Is the turkisch wiki this page?
Is this page much different than http://en.pardus-wiki.org/Using_Windows_wireless_card_drivers ?

yes they are different. the english one is good deteiled and depense on wlan. the türkish one is not so deteiled and depense on ndiswrapper.

i use 2008.1 and the stick is recognized as usb 2.0

the problem seems that the stick cant connect to the wlan router.
i was able to install the stick as "adhoc" network. in "managed" mode it wont work.
when i look for other wlan sticks i recognized that in germany nearly all sticks have a rtl8187 chipset.
other chisets are rare. i dont know how ubuntu manage the stick works (only as 2Mbit).
maybe in turkey the rtl8178 chipset is sold rare.

Could the v4l part also be done with ?

http://paketler.pardus.org.tr/pardus-2008/libv4l-0.5.1-3-3.pisi

seems easier to me, but whether you can still configure your specific usb stick following installating this PISI I don't know

no  i do not think that this will function. on pardus  found a libv4l -0.4xxx but this is only 40KB.
the script fom  http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hama_DVB-T_USB2_Stick
will downlaod near 50 MB. and as i understand it ist not only for dvb-t sticks but also for other multimedia cards and radio cards and webcams ....
i am absolutly satisfied with the result of this page.

Please consider adding to Pardus Wiki (my signature) Smiley

... i am waiting for response if other people are also able to install or if there any other problems.
as you see even i had a problem when i want to install it on a other computer.
42  Assistance / Hardware / Re: realtek 8187 usb wireless lan adapter on: October 30, 2008, 22:25:29 PM
..i tried with ndiswrapper as written in the turkisch wiki.
so the driver was installed like before he was also.

i was able to see and scan the router with the rtl8187 usb-stick, that means the stick functions, but i was not able to login to the router.
has anybody an idea whats wrong?
