Does anyone have any real news (in English) regarding the result of the "Future of Pardus Workshop"?

I would like to test this repository and perhaps use it for updates but it appears that it isn't indexed so I can't just install packages using pisi...

Are there more instructions somewhere else that I am missing or is it currently not going to be used with pisi?

do they mean 2011.3?

I finally got some communication from a Pardus developer, H. İbrahim Güngör, regarding the Github repository.

He said that his ex-colleagues forked the packages to Github and attempted to bootstrap a new distro based on Pardus 2011.2 but it did not succeed. He said that if a fork was to exist that it should be forked from SVN, not from the Github fork.

I wish we could get some communication from the developers who forked Pardus to Github, just to confirm this news mainly, but either way it sounds like many of the packages in the Github repo are in an unusable state...

So basically there's no real answer?

Why are the official repos offline?

can't access packages.pardus.org.tr... doesn't that mean even the corporate2 repos are offline???

If anyone is interested I have updated the google-talk plugin to the latest version (v2.6.2.0):

For 32-bit:
pisi build http://packages.pcdomain.com/build-files/pardus-2011/devel/network/plugin/google-talkplugin-32bit/pspec.xml
pisi install google-talkplugin-

For 64-bit:
If you are running Pardus 64-bit you must have the pardus-devel repo installed and you must temporarily disable the default pardus repo:
pisi ar pardus-devel http://packages.pardus.org.tr/pardus/2011.2/devel/x86_64/pisi-index.xml.xz
pisi dr pardus

Now build and install:
pisi build http://packages.pcdomain.com/build-files/pardus-2011/devel/network/plugin/google-talkplugin-64bit/pspec.xml
pisi install google-talkplugin-
Then disable the pardus-devel repo and re-enable the pardus repo:
pisi dr pardus-devel && pisi er pardus

  • Please Note: If installing on Pardus 64-bit you will likely be required to install many dependencies from the pardus-devel repo including libxml2, glib2, pisi and several other system packages along with a bunch of 32-bit compatibility packages.

I am not hosting the Google talk plugin binary because it is a closed source plugin and I don't know what Google says about redistribution...

This hasn't been fully tested so please report back here if you have any problems.

If you manually installed the plugin in the past you will have to manually remove the old plugin first! If you originally installed using pisi then pisi will take care of the rest for you.

I want pardususer.de to help as much as possible. Anything I can do to get the ball rolling?

Here is what I would like to see happen within the next week or so:

I don't know if this russian site is going to take off soon but it looks pretty good (now that they dumped the old pardus.org.tr rip-off template).

Hopefully it does and they get it completely localized for everyone. Then we could move the community form to the new website (non-google), have an intro page to the next release of Pardus, have a forum, bug tracker, and an actual repo that everyone can point their Pardus installation(s) to.

That is my hope for this community effort.

If they don't make progress then I am willing to work with everyone and donate some servers/bandwidth and I will donate my time to set up a similar "community portal".

Many on IRC #pardus right now if anyone wants to chat.

The problem with this forum is that registration is still closed... I have been talking with Michiel but he is not interested in opening the forum for registration due to spammers.

It sounds like because this SMF install is outdated and there is no captcha verification set up for the account creation process, this site will get spamed like crazy unless we update/maintain it.

I have suggested to Michiel that I would do the upgrade and maintainence in order to get registration back online but he has not responded to my pm.

Now that the russian site is coming online perhaps instead of using this forum we can get a new forum going on that site, or somewhere else... That way we could have a new public place for communication that everyone can participate... Just a thought.
