Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Re: SU or root, I can't seem to become either to edit the GRUB menu ?!?!

"mcedit /boot/grub/menu.lst"
does not work. I can't save the file. Kdesu, su, sudo, xdg-su kwrite do not work because Kwrite (which is installed is an invalid argument).
How can I edit the grub menu to chainload another distro ?
I do have administrator rights as far as I can tell. I reinstalled and selected admin right durin installation. Also, when I look at the users under the system settings I see everything is permitted....

Assistance / Software / Re: No sound, no volume adjusment, pulseaudio problem...

Thanks for your help.
I rebooted today, and it decided all by itself that the Master channel would be the channel controlled by Kmix, and of course, at 100% volume. It has been "Front". "Digital" and now "Master" - all selected by pulseaudio without any input by me.
How can this horrible software be released ? If you look at the Ubuntu forums you will see several huge threads that essentially amount to fixing pulseaudio. I hate it.
Since it selected Master all by itself I can only wonder if your advice can help, but thanks anyway.

Assistance / Software / Re: Does Pardus us pulseaudio for sound (like ubuntu) ?

Oh, I was afraid of this. Pulseaudio rears its ugly head again. The master channel for Kmix was "Front" now, for no reason it changed itself to "Digital" and the following problems are occuring: The volume can't be changed, it is pinned at 100% and secondly, there is no sound through any medium nor any system sounds.
This is Pardus 2009. I ran a Pisi update prior to the reboot. I have rebooted a few times and the problem persists.

HI,
I have not used a KDE distro for a while until this fresh install of Pardus 2009. Very Nice.
I have not figured out how to gain any rights to edit files like GRUB menu, etc... I tried sudo,su Kdesu. Kwrite IS installed so:
sudo kwrite su kwrite kdesu kwrite
should bring kwrite up with privileges to edit the GRUB menu, but this is not happening. What am I doing wrong ?

Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Pardus won't boot from GRUB after Pisi update.

I reinstalled with the 2007.3 CD. I updated with PISI and now Pardus will not boot with the following Chainload entry in another GRUB
title Pardus root (hd0,5) chainloader +1
This is exactly what caused me to start the thread with the 2007.2 version. I don't think that Pardus is making a GRUB menu.lst correction for changes made to the booting stuff after Pisi upgrades it.

Assistance / Installing Pardus / Hard Disk problem... necessary reformat. Is new version coming out?
|
on: October 29, 2007, 23:13:25 PM

Hard Disk problems forced me to reformat the disk. So, before reinstalling 2007.2, I wanted to know if a new release was imminent. In that case, I will wait for the new release.
Is Pardus a rolling-release distro? By that I mean to ask if it is an install-once and just keep updating with Pisi kind of affair as opposed to reinstalling with the installation CD each time a new version is released.
Thanks,
B.
