Assistance / Software / Re: 'gmic-gimp' plug-in not working.
|
on: August 17, 2011, 22:34:03 PM

Downloaded 'gmic_gimp_linux32.zip' dated 2011-08-06( version 1.5.0) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gmic/files/and as per 'readme' extracted to '$HOME/.gimp-2.x/plug-ins/' (for local installation), or 'usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/' (for global installation). But in both cases it is not working. The file permissions are same as that of other plugins at 'usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/' At last ,doubting the healthiness of the downloaded file, copied the properly working plugin from my mint9 partition to '$HOME/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins/' directory, but in vain. Actually it should appear at the bottom of the 'filters' list and enabled if some image is open in gimp. I never had such a problem earlier. Has anybody faced this situation? Is there any solution? -Jagdeesh. Just tried this. Put it in the gimp plugin folder in home dir and it appeared at the bottom of the "filters" list when I restarted gimp. Pardus 2009.2.

Assistance / Software / Re: No version of 'locate' in Pardus 2011.1

Strange that they left P2011.1 without any version of locate at all. It's not exactly a new program.
Maybe it's a matter of human resources. And if you can't wait: goto http://packages.pardus.org.tr/pardus/2011/testing/ (i686 or x86_64) and from there you can install it by selecting the appropriate package. This as easy as life can be at this moment Thanks a lot. Got it installed but updatedb -U doesn't work, says it requires an argument but I don't know what to put. Any ideas?

mlocate is in testing depot and will hit stable after some testing time.
Oh, right. Thanks for the information. Strange that they left P2011.1 without any version of locate at all. It's not exactly a new program.

Thanks for the info I am saving/restoring an image via (W)LAN from a /home/partimag directory on my main computer almost daily. This is because the main computer has sufficient disk space to accommodate the (large) image files. You're welcome atolboo. Though it seems that fsarchiver is of no use to you at the moment because it doesn't (as far as I can see) work across a network. Maybe something for the future if the author implements such a feature.

Apart from the speed, what are the advantages compared to Clonezilla/G4L For example: Ability to restore the filesystem to a partition which is smaller than the original. Ability to restore the filesystem to a partition which is bigger than the original without resizing. Checksumming of the data and ability to restore corrupt archives, it will skip the corrupt file. Ability to encrypt the data with a password. It can restore the data on a different file-system, it creates this on restore, if wanted. It can save multiple file-systems in one archive . Ability to do multi-threaded compression.

http://www.fsarchiver.org/Main_PageThis will backup and restore the partition file-system, it's pretty easy to use and works really well. It has some very nice features too. Have a read through the pages on the website and if you have any questions I'll be happy to help if I can. The best way to use it is to get the latest version of SystemRescueCD, which includes fsarchiver and all the file-system tools it needs: FSArchiver is available in pardususer.de repository. I'm using it often and you're right, works very well. Pmagic has File Roller 2.30.0 on board and maybe it's equivalent to FSArchiver atolboo, these two programs are not the same type of thing at all.

I'm impressed with just how quick the restore operation is.

Hi, my pardus sytem is up and running, but I still would like to play around with other distros like Bodhilinux. For that reason I would like to ask if there is a method to fully backup the current pardus sytem, eg. in a disc image or something of the short, so that after finished, I could just reload the system I use now. This is becouse I only have a 15Gb partition free. Furthermore, how can I restore pardus boot after that? Thanks
Hi, fsarchiver is an alternative tool that will do what you want: http://www.fsarchiver.org/Main_PageThis will backup and restore the partition file-system, it's pretty easy to use and works really well. Assistance / Installing Pardus / Re: No proprietary video driver for Mobility Radeon 9600 M10

.... whilst P2011.1 seems more like a testing version.
I don't agree on this ^^^ one. On my little netbook P2011 does perform equivalent to P2009 I reloaded my image of P2011.1 on my laptop and surprisingly, if I enable Desktop Effects/compositing, the GUI is much smoother when moving windows etc. I haven't got enough memory to keep it like this though so will have to run it with Desktop Effects/compositing turned off and put up with the edges off windows breaking up when they are moved. Must be something to do with Kwin I guess because this doesn't happen with P2009.2 which is using the same graphics driver. Overall, 2011.1 is much more resource hungry and runs quite a bit slower on my machine than P2009.2. Plus, P2011.1 will not install, I had to install P2011 and then update to P 2011.1.

why doesn't Pardus 2011.1 work as well (also with Kwin disabled) I guess You can disable Kwin effects, but not Kwin itself Yes, of course, that's what I meant to say. Because we have a smililar machine maybe You should add some more memory, because here usage of P2011 is possible. Videos in fullscreen are sometimes flickering and of course Desktop effects are not working and resize of windows is also not nice but besides that its working quite good. Well that's a relief! Unfortunately, I cannot afford to add more memory and to be honest, as things stand at the moment, I much prefer P2009.2 on my laptop.
