1  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: [SOLVED] Lost NetworkManager applet and net is not working on: September 30, 2011, 01:09:55 AM
I am not sure if it's test version, maybe just another edition featuring XFCE & E-17. Regardless, it seems to work well until now Smiley so no complaints.

owiknowi: Thanks for the link, yes have heard about LFS never tried it out. Reason i found the dependencies strange is because different distros have different dependencies, so in a certain distro some of the packages can be removed without bringing anything down, while in another distro the same would create a lot of mess. Anyway it's fine for now :-)

atolboo: I had installed from COMAK-i686-[kozdincer].iso which had XFCE and E-17. http://comak.comu.edu.tr/kozdincer/
It says 2011.2 on bootup as well as in Smolt, so hopefully it is the latest similar to the one that got released few weeks back.

@owiknowi - You really saved me. Was able to get Network manager from live cd and things are working ok now. Though it's surprising i had to install ModemManager and ppp as dependency. Dependencies in Linux really surprises me at times, not sure if i do need those packages at all, as i was able to remove both of them in another distro without having any issue.

No, actually it did exist, however when i was cleaning up unwanted packages which i usually do to reduce clutter/save disk space it removed Network Manager as well. I think it did notify that it's being removed however i didn't pay much attention towards it and neither did i realise i didn't have wicd or any other package as backup  Sad

@owiknowi - will try your suggestions and see how it goes, Thanks.

@atolboo - I meant E17 window manager, had a choice of XFCE and E-17 and i chose E-17.

Hi,

I had installed E17 edition and while removing unwanted pkgs happened to remove ppp which had a dependency with NetworkManager. Subsequently after my machine reboot, internet stopped working. Tried to install with pkg manager but even that complained about net not working.

Is there anyway i can get NetworkManager or wicd pisi and will it work if i install either of those? I don't want to reinstall Pardus all over again.

Thanks

a.palius: Thanks so much for your promptness in the build on synapse. Was able to install gtkhotkey without issues, however it fails in synapse build. Apparently it looks like others had similar issue with vala compilation, though for different apps and not synapse in particular. So might have to wait till someone releases a fix.

Thanks.

Worked like a charm, thanks so much. Do you know if i can get synapse as well? I happened to look at pspec.xml and got an understanding how it works, so will try to get one for synapse myself. If it works (i hope it does) will inform so you can upload it in that website, should anyone else be interested in using it.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Can we have packages for synapse (application launcher), sakura/lilyterm?

I tried building all of them from source but ran into issues and couldn't resolve them for lack of other dependencies, so was wondering if anyone can help?

Synapse especially would be quite helpful in gnome/xfce environments.

qmake went through fine, however make had an error -

/usr/include/QtCore/qbytearray.h:48:20: fatal error: string.h: No such file or directory

Have to find out how to fix this issue.

Thanks for your help.

What is the result (in konsole) of
Code:
pisi lr
And we can work from the result to try to solve the problem.

Earlier pisi lr returned nothing, however when i followed zvacet instructions from an earlier post i was able to add repositories and now pisi lr returns those repositories back.

Thanks for your help.

Remove repos from package manager and after that add it from terminal.See http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php?topic=3478.15.After that update with command

Code:
sudo pisi update-repo

Thanks that worked. Was able to install chrome.

I know this question is off track from my original question but do you happen to know how we can install synapse/gnome-do/launchy? Tried searching after all the repositories were added but couldn't find any of those packages. I then tried to compile from source but it gave following error -

/usr/bin/uname -p = unknown
/bin/uname -X     = unknown

/bin/arch              = unknown
/usr/bin/arch -k       = unknown
/usr/convex/getsysinfo = unknown
/usr/bin/hostinfo      = unknown
/bin/machine           = unknown
/usr/bin/oslevel       = unknown
/bin/universe          = unknown

even though those commands return something when run from command line, so not sure what the actual problem is.

Thanks for your input.

Hi,

For some reason i'm unable to get the repositories right with 2011 release. I went through wiki links and added the right repository using Package Manager.

However when i do pisi ur or pisi up nothing seems to happen.

When i search for specific packages like chromium/google-chrome nothing shows up even though i've the repositories added.

Typing pisi la gives this -

pisi la
Installed packages are shown in this color

while according to pisi help la should be -

list-available (la) - List available packages in the repositories

and so should list out all possible packages, but nothing is showing up.

Not sure what i'm doing wrong, can someone please help?

Thanks.
