I cannot get ANY of the recent Buntu derivatives working on this laptop, so no testing of the buntus here. Perhaps the next cycle will see some improvement in newer hardware support in that area....

General / General topics / Thank You Pardus Recovery!

Installed another linux variant to test....lo and behold, it messed up my grub and all I could load was Windows...blech!
Popped my Pardus DVD in and voila! recovered most important things from previous grub.

Assistance / Software / Firefox is dead!

Sorry for the melodramatic subject line, but here it goes...
Firefox does not completely load now...it only loads to an empty window. No menus, no web page, nothing...just the window frame.
I have reloaded the app from the Repositories...no luck
I uninstalled via Software center, then reinstalled fresh...no luck
Suggestions anyone?

Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Pardus 2011 with Enlightenment

Oh my! I am loving Enlightenment! I wish there were more skins available, etc....but it is easy to learn, worked out of the box for me and uses far fewer resources. there are a number of add on tools I wish were in the repositories and I've only played for a couple hours, but I think I might use it permanently instead of KDE

I agree John, but the new Mint Gnome Extensions look promising. Unfortunately, I have no end of troubles with the latest 2 versions of Ubuntu based distro's... I am pretty sure it all has to do with KMS, but even turning that off, I boot to blank screen in all the Ubuntus on my new Llano bassed laptop

General / General topics / Re: Pardus new website and logo.

Well..new website is a nice try, BUT I find it to be a bit....bland and boring. OTOH, since the standard Pardus install is kind of bland/gray, I can understand some why they would make the site shades of gray as well....
I also agree that the logo for the software should be clear and present on the front page and each page thereafter. My concern is the logo is starting to look a little dated and....primitive. Instead of face on, how about a roaring lion head in profile, fading to the body.....THAT could easily be animated for install final boot splash, etc.....The thick outline currently makes it look too simple/primitive, I think.

I have the same issue...seems to have improved some in the last week or so, but it's still there. Other KDE distros (Chakra) don't seem to have this problem...but then with Chakra, ONLY the boot sound works...no other sound works....while in Pardus sound works everywhere...

Interesting article, and I agree with one of the respondent's suggestions of spiffs and merchandising the name rather than the software..T-shirts, mugs, etc....Community coordinator could engage the community with contests and even possibly have community programming contests for open source projects in Pardus.
The key being to engage the community in a proactive manner and to bring excitement to the community and product.
BTW I am not a fan of the white on black installer...it's drab.

Welcome to our little group Armstrong. It is growing..slow but sure...and they seem to be doing a pretty bang up job adding new features etc... The nice thing is they are quite responsive to feature/app requests....between the main devel in Turkey and the additional repos.....

Chris which graphics driver are you using? I had the blinking black lines with the ATI 11.8, but the 11.10 testing I haven't encountered the flashing black lines anymore.
