Main reason many like Pardus, is that it just works, and does a great job as a reliable OS for doing what you want without fear of the Windoze BSOD and random freezeds that are still around in 7

Will help if I can, probably with user manuals or a quick start guide

ultimate result was the same, and the printer initialised but didn't spool the job

Ok will do but the file is contained in the Ubuntu folder of the Linux driver .zip from sagem support site, san the instructions are in the readmes for ubuntu

I think it actually runs a shell script that opens up a gui with mouse click selection of options.

Thanks john, I will keep trying to find a solution as I don't like the direction Ububtu is going, so am likely to stick with Pardus.

HPLIP is in the repositories for Pardus, but as my printer isn't HP it won't help, although I installed it anyway in case I neesed to use a HP printer later

Great, I will try the ppd from the driver disk and see what comes up, thanks atoboo.

Have tested the ppd, and this is what comes up:

Thanks, was just thinking but you are correct, it would likely mess things up.
There is definitely communication with the printer, it sends the job, the printer starts up, but it doesn't complete .
The RedHat driver is no good, as it wants to install an obsolete version of cups

Just had a thought, perhaps the driver is 32bit only, and I am using the X64 version of Pardus...Doh

Thanks atoboo, will try them, I wonder if the cups version in Pardus makes a difference, and would the new cups make a difference I wonder if I installed it from source?

Thanks John.  This one is a completely different animal, it's an A3 printer, I will try the driver, but the only commonality may well be the 6020 designation

There is a Sagem equivalent the MF5402 which  I think uses the same toner as the Philips but the cartridge is cheaper

I think looking at the folder, there are scripts for each particular distro, incidentally if I use the search for ppd option and add the ppd file from the Windoze driver disk, I get the same result,  printer display says please wait, then goes back immediately to ready. Generic laser printer drivers don't work either.

Why the suse driver?  did the install via console and same result, printer says please wait then straight back to ready without spooling the job
