It will be interesting to see how this gets sorted out.
^ This is exactly what I was thinking as I was reading it.

I've also wondered about how there can be changes in license with different versions of software e.g. Qt.
What happens if someone contributed code under the GPL and then that code was made available under the LGPL? That particular developer might not want his or her code to be used for commercial software. I guess it's up to the license holder. If that be the case, why couldn't Apache simply reissue it under their own license? Would they even need or want to?

I'm wanting to move to 64 bit from my present 32 so I don't think I''ll be able to do this if I go to 64 bit from 32, will I?

You'll have to do a clean install without formating your home partition. Your data and preferences should be safe but you'll have to reinstall any programs.

I couldn't even open a folder from my FF download window with Xfce.
What distro were you using?

Xubuntu beta 2 with Xfce 4.8. Do you think it was because it was a beta?

I admit I didn't use it that long but I downloaded an ISO with FF. I tried to open the folder containing it and nothing happened. Then, I tried to burn the ISO by dragging it to K3B and nothing happened. I had to open it from K3b. That was enough to have me uninstall it. If it's supposed to work, maybe I'll give it another try.

Or consider Xfce.  It is a lot like Gnome 2.

I couldn't even open a folder from my FF download window with Xfce. I couldn't drag and drop either. I wouldn't recommend it for the average user.

It's not very intuitive. Many people will just think it's broken.

You can run the new Ubuntu in "classic mode" if you go and change in the system settings.
I believe that option is going to go away.

It's there more for people who can't run Compiz . It'll be replaced, for that purpose, by Unity 2D in 11.10.

The classic mode will be replaced in 11.10 by Unity 2D, which is written with Qt .

I agree. Defaults are very important when it comes to new users and first impressions. One of the reasons I like Pardus is that it guides you through set-up and allows you to choose your defaults to a fair extent.

The first was made by a guy in the KDE forum. The second, I made with Kubuntu. (Kubuntu is the only KDE distro that has a global menu widget)

In my opinion, KDE did it right by offering a netbook and a desktop workspace. A "one size fits all" approach will never be everything to everyone.

I find Unity especially disappointing since Ubuntu use to be known for its user friendliness.

Oops! I should have checked which repo it was in. Oh, and I'm Craig . I changed my display name.

A tip is to store photos, documents etc... in SkyDrive:

You get 25GB for free. Thats not so bad.

Thanks for the tip.

I suppose Pardus could be mentioned there. They write themselves its for discussion of other operating system.
Its some about Slackware and OpenSUSE so why not Pardus?

Exactly! I elect you to write about Pardus as you are one of the best, if not the best, proponent of this distro. Smiley

I just saw this on Ubuntuforums.

A good place to mention Pardus, no?

This forums is for the discussion and support of other operating systems and Linux distros. No official Ubuntu supported distros questions should be posted here. No bashing/flaming of any OS/Distros is allow. Please be aware this is not the best place to receive tech support for this OS/Distros and users should look for official support channels for those systems.

Now that April fool's day has passed, the previous link won't make any sense by itself. This is what was posted on every one of their pages:

Here is a new Pardus page I have not seen before:
http://www.pardusforum.com/index.html

Looks good but not working as expected. I filled in a bug report of it:
Bug 17638 Smiley

Some links not open when click on them. Like the big banner where it says:

Just click to download!

Nothing happend when click on it. But if they work on it seems fine. All relevant Pardus pages at one webpage.

That's not an official page but by a user named Ozan YILMAZ
His contact llink: webmaster@pardusforum.com
