61  Assistance / Software / Re: very irritating problem when ending a game in pardus!! on: June 06, 2011, 21:47:56 PM
I checked every logfile, and this error comes in almost every logfile:
Code:
tristan@pardus2011 ~ $ cat /var/log/kdm.log | grep error
Jun  6 13:15:58 pardus2011 kernel: [ 9401.021680] plugin-containe[1833]: segfault at b3f4caf8 ip 004c1c47 sp b18ff09c error 6 in libpthread-2.12.so[4b7000+16000]
I'm not really sure this has anything to do with it, cause it only shows up at 13.15  Undecided
And yeah, i played a lot games on this pardus version, and never had a single problem. Pardus was by the way always the most stable distro, in my opinion, to play games. Maybe it is because of the 200 updates a few weeks ago? cause i never played a game after those updates until now  Huh?

when i do the command i get this strange output:

Code:
tristan@pardus2011 ~ $ cat /var/log/kdm.log | grep error
Fatal server error:

Another update: i noticed there was a error in comar, so i reinstalled "comar" and "comar-api". this has solved my problem a bit, for now. but when i start a game, and my compositing fails (i can see that when the game starts fickering) and i end the game, i still get the "blackscreen-login-error". To me thats pretty strange, cause i've never had this problem in a game before  Huh? it all looks pretty unstable, or could it be the hardware of my laptop thats failing?  Huh?

I searched with dolphin, and he found this errors. I think the error that might be important is the one from the kdm.log, i think it would be somewere around 13 hours when is got the game problem  Wink

thanx for reply  Wink

I looked at /var/log, but those files don't make any sense to me  Undecided any idea where i have to look for? cause i can't come up with anything that causes this problem.
65  Assistance / Software / very irritating problem when ending a game in pardus!! on: June 06, 2011, 13:27:33 PM
hey

I have recently a very irritating problem with pardus, when i play a game (even if the compositing is turned off), and i end the game, my screen goes black! and i see a tiny stripe flickering on the left top of my screen. After a few seconds the login screen appears! and when i log back in, all my unsaved projects are gone! i even have this problem when playing windows games on wine  Sad.

So whats the problem? I fixed the problem for a little while by removing the .kde map in my home directory (but after i reboot a few times, the problem comes back, the only thing i do in kde is add some widgets to my desktop). also when i remove the config folders (.gconfig, .gnome, .gnome2; etc...) the problem is gone, but only for ONE session. After i reboot, the problem comes back  Embarrassed

I find this very weird and frustrating.. anybody who can help me or has the same problem?  Huh?

I have an intel core i3 and a build in videocard (intel HD graphics)  Smiley

I still think Ubuntu are little better in hardware detection. I have noticed some bug reports for HP printers (HP LaserJet P1005 and other HP models) for example:

http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=18261
http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=14745

In that area Ubuntu is excellent.

True, i had to install a plugin in hplip (with command line), to get my lazerjet fully working. Even if pardus recognized the printer.  Wink

If you create a larger userbase around the world you will get a advantage in the long run. More people to use it and find errors, write bug reports and request...
I tested pardus AND ubuntu at the same time on 5 different home pc's/laptops (a bunch of medions, a hp and an acer). I tested ubunutu 8.10 9.10 and 10.10 and pardus 2008.2 al 2009 versions and now version 2011. and i have to say that my experience is that i had a lot ( a whole Lotta) more bugs in Ubuntu than in pardus. the only benefit of the 2009 version was that my new hardware (acer) was not supported, so i had to wait until the 2011 version, which worked out of the box on all of my pc's.
I even let my family test those 2 distributions. First I installed Ubuntu on 2 medion pc's, but after 2 days or so testing Ubuntu, they just switched back over to Window$ ( i had it dual-booted with ubuntu). Later i removed ububuntu on one pc and i installed pardus on it. So i asked my brother and sisters to test it again, so they did. The result? they never switched back to windows! because there were no bugs like in Ubuntu and it was more user friendly and worked out of the box!
I also had an old pc running on Ubuntu... First i didn't knew if i had to install pardus on this pc, or not, because Ubuntu was running very slow on it (every time slower and slower), and i had read somewhere that gnome runs faster than kde.  I just thought that my pc was to old, but it wasn't! So when Ubuntu was at his slowest, i removed it and installed pardus. And wonder by wonder it ran so fast, i thought someone installed a new processor in this oldie! It even didn't slow down like Ubuntu, it just ran every day like it should.
Pardus is stable as a rock, runs out of the box and very user-friendly!
I also tested some other distro's like fedora and suse, and had somewhat the same experience as Ubuntu.
So why would someone, in my opinion, use another distro than pardus? NO IDEA!

I tested and got a down down speed of 30mbs and an up speed of 1.8 mbs

but it is known that Comcast throttles back those that are high on there downloads, what that point is I do not know.
I think that is pretty much the same as a download limit  Wink if i download more than 12gig, telenet slows down my connection. wich makes surfing on the internet very uconfortable, cuz it cant for example load youtube video's anymore  Embarrassed.

 Shocked

I think I'm jealous..

Don't be  Wink In belgium we have indeed a very fast down and upload speed. But we are, as far as i know, the only country who has a download limit  Sad e few months ago, I had al limit of 12 gig. Now we upgraded, but there is still a limit, and if you share youre internet with 6 people at home, its very easy to reach the download limit.
71  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: A large update package release tonight. on: May 27, 2011, 15:10:35 PM
On my pc it took 1 minute or so, to download the updates, with my fibernet connection from telenet  Grin
we are lucky that pardus supports delta packages, otherwise i had to download 1,1 (200 packages) gig instead of 214 mb  Shocked

No thanks  Grin

And yes, i found this on google, to turn off the desktop effects with command line:

Code:
qdbus org.kde.kwin /KWin org.kde.KWin.toggleCompositing

I tested it, and it works  Wink

I got the same problem Smiley

if you screen is already 'flickering', try to open a terminal and type:

Code:
kwin --replace

normally it stops flickering now  Wink

to prevent the flickering and play games without any problems go to --> system settings --> desktop effects --> and turn off the desktop effects.  Smiley if you are done playing games, you can turn the desktop effects back on  Grin
