Small stripes in upper left corner.

Cooool design!  Cool

ahhh. actually the "dashes" go ll the way across the top of the screen.. I hadn't noticed. I also don't use an nvidia card so not sure why they are there. It might be because I am running it as a guest in VirtualBox.

thanks.

edit: I did another screen capture. this one without dashes although they seem to come and go
depending on what is focused on the desktop. strange.

.re-edit: I applied the fix mentioned in the link and the problem has gone away.

5  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: How to update VirtualBox guest additions in a Pardus guest? on: September 24, 2011, 01:03:55 AM
After paying all my attention to http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=19066 it's now time to return to the normal (and less urgent) issues.
I have been with the following result:
I have installed VirtualBox 4.1.2 r73507 in P2009 (thanks to pavi ) .
After this I downloaded and installed Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.2-73507.vbox-extpack.
Next I installed Pardus-2011.2-Cervus-elaphus-i686.iso as a Guest_OS in VB.
And now the most important conclusion is:
Don't install the VBOXADDITIONS_4.1.2_73507 in Pardus-2011.2 Guest_OS.
Instead leave/use the default virtualbox-guest-utils from Pardus-2011.2 Guest_OS.
In this way I get a 100% mouse integration and screen resolution (currently 1440x1050 on my HP LP2475w)
And after making a permanent shared folder with the name "test" and adding
Code:
test   /home/atolboo/share   vboxsf   defaults  0   0
to /etc/fstab (see http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html#sharedfolders).
The permanent shared folder is accessible in Dolphin in /home/atolboo/share after a re-start of Pardus-2011.2 Guest_OS

first of all thank you for taking the time to look into this. I also had full screen, shared folders etc with the installed 4.0.8 guest additions. I guess the answer to my original question on how to update them is "DON't" lol.

I noted above when I looked for /etc/fstab or etc/rc.local I couldn't find them.  I found /etc/fstab finally and have shared folders working. VirtualBox recommends NOT using .etc.fstab for quite awhile now but it works.  Grin

thanks again.  Smiley

yes that's what I get if I don't remove the pre-installed VirtualBox Additions first. If I remove them first I get the error I mentioned above.

I asked over at VirtualBox.org and they seem to feel Pardus is using a specially patched version on the editions and I would have to wait until they update to the latest versions. or alternatively build my own from scratch which I don't have the knowledge or inclination to do.  Grin
7  General / Wish list / VirtualBox 4.1.2 Guest Additions on: September 21, 2011, 01:32:55 AM
as of Pardus 2011.2 the VB guest additions installed are 4.0.8. Those are quite out of date and I am hoping there will be 4.1.2 modules available soon.  Smiley

while Im here, does anyone know where to add the shared folder command so they automount? normally  it's added to /etc/rc.local or /etc/fstab but Pardus has neither of those. It needs to be in the script that runs at the end of the boot process.

...... but I am running 4.1.2
Where and how did you install this VB 4.1.2 Huh?

I am running an iMac host. I installed VB 4.1.2. on that. It's where all my guests run from, which at last count is 33 Linux guests and Windows XP and 7.

btw, I just did a fresh install of Pardus 2011.2

I can't seem to update the guest additions in Pardus 2011. It came pre-installed with 4.0.8 ga's but I am running 4.1.2 and among other things shared folders don't work. The three pre-installed modules that were included are: module-virtualbox-guest, module-virtualbox-guest-userspace and virtualbox-guest-utils.

If I try installing the GA's on top of those it gives me the usual warning about them being installed and to remove the first. If I try to install them anyway by typing yes after "are you sure you want to do this?" they just stop. If I remove them first I get this error...
Code:
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 4.1.2 Guest Additions for Linux.........
VirtualBox Guest Additions installer
Removing installed version 4.1.2 of VirtualBox Guest Additions...
Unable to set vboxadd state:
  Unable to find '/var/db/comar3/scripts/System.Service/vboxadd.py'
Unable to set vboxadd_service state:
  Unable to find '/var/db/comar3/scripts/System.Service/vboxadd_service.py'
Unable to set vboxadd_x11 state:
  Unable to find '/var/db/comar3/scripts/System.Service/vboxadd_x11.py'
I've installed over 150 guests by now and have never seen this error.
any thoughts?
11  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: KDE menu on: September 17, 2011, 02:21:56 AM
Hi, you could use kaptan. Just start kaptan and follow the steps.

ok, thanks. as it turned out while I was waiting for a response I installed XFCE. The next time I logged into KDE the problem was gone. I will keep kapstan in mind in case it happens again.

I read
Quote
2. Insert the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso CD file into your Linux guest's virtual CD-ROM drive, exactly the same way as described for a Windows guest in the section called “Installation”.

3.Change to the directory where your CD-ROM drive is mounted and execute as root:
sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

I'm sorry but maybe I'm not clear. I have no problem mounting the guest additions or starting to run them. but they fail to install. the installation quits with the error I mentioned in the very first post.

after an update my KDE menu opens at the top of the screen. How do I fix this?

15  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: How to update VirtualBox guest additions in a Pardus guest? on: September 07, 2011, 21:19:40 PM
and I have never done this as I only use Pardus in the real world.
Did you already find and read http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html Huh?
Yes, about two years ago  Grin I have installed over 150 Linux flavors, spins, remixes etc and never ran into the error I mentioned.  Smiley
