316  Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Re: SOLVED - Is there a file manager I can use as root? on: November 08, 2011, 11:11:07 AM
Hi, I just use kwrite or Kate for system editing , called from the command line as root.
But Owiknowi is correct , sure is the fastest way to screw up the system if your not careful  Grin Grin Grin

Edit: My favorite filemanager is midnight commander

omg

AL DI MEOLA,and his Mediterranean Sundance I actually forgot that one and I heard him play it on his debut'  lp , nice variation.

I've been thinking of tracking down some oldies,
got it, try this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiOkgKm0Tcg

Good guitar work is also done by Ed Bickert  ( jazz bass guitar )
And Chet Atkins , although known for his country and western music ,was also good in classical guitar, good enough he tutored Liona Boyd who also studied under Narsico Yepes .

No error lines but one can't line Grin
"can't assign mem pref"
Doesn't seem very significant.

I tend to agree ,Maurice.

Couple of other things , some usb devices (e.g. external hard drives , not keyboards or mice ) have caused a ( older ) system to hang  or to not boot , something to see to ( remove them temporarily ) .
As I mentioned , mine was a hard to install thing, so I disabled ( in software ) a couple of things , not force , just removed them from the kernel boot.My boot looks like this now:  " kernel /boot/kernel-2.6.37.6 root=/dev/mapper/VolGroup-lv_root resume=/dev/mapper/VolGroup-lv_swap ".

You may want to try this at the inital boot screen in the parameters line, it'll restore itself in the next boot.

Ok then Maurice, assuming you have not altered KDE  ,it's likely ok , ( at least mine is , and mine was a difficult install ).
Can you do a dmesg , while in konsole, just see if there are any lines that have the word " error " in them.....................
320  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Wicd on: November 08, 2011, 02:13:03 AM
G'day Chris
Try this: open a terminal  ( konsole will do) ,on the command line type "dmesg | less ".
This gives you a screenful of information , including hardware.
If you don't know what you are looking at , then type this ( both cases ,do not include the " " )
"dmesg > text.txt". You can then  include that (text.txt ) in your next message.

This may be a silly question, but desktop are you using, sometimes the configuration needs to be tweeked.

I know you're likely to be using KDE , but lets be sure...

Specificly, that
there ARE a number of open source translation tools
but there is a lot of work involved to do this, at least with turkish ,and arabic.
But I want to see what I can do for one that thing at this point

I'm afraid not quite John A.
I'm trying to setup a "tool chain" of sorts , to translate turkish pdf's to some sort of viewable english text
Mostly for my own use .
Mostly for my own curiosity.
And if I can do it for turkish , then I should be able to do so for others.
Quality would unlikely be high though.

328  General / Tips and tricks / SEARCH ENGINES on: November 07, 2011, 15:35:30 PM
A recent question about "Search Engines", got me thinking (ouch).

A list of search engines can be found at  http://www.thesearchenginelist.com/

Also , for the mathematIcally minded there is Alpha , by Wolfram ( the developer of MATHMATICA ), to be found @  http://www.wolframalpha.com/

There is also the Dmoz ,( the Open Directory Project ) : http://www.dmoz.org/

And for a new search engine , there is a truly unique one called WireDoo, caution , it is a startup ( in beta ),and it is being developed by M.C. Hammer  Grin         http://wiredoo.com/global/signup.html

My understanding is that that movie launched her career as opera singer ,to a very good start.
