This may be a silly question, but desktop are you using, sometimes the configuration needs to be tweeked.

I know you're likely to be using KDE , but lets be sure...

Specificly, that
there ARE a number of open source translation tools
but there is a lot of work involved to do this, at least with turkish ,and arabic.
But I want to see what I can do for one that thing at this point

I'm afraid not quite John A.
I'm trying to setup a "tool chain" of sorts , to translate turkish pdf's to some sort of viewable english text
Mostly for my own use .
Mostly for my own curiosity.
And if I can do it for turkish , then I should be able to do so for others.
Quality would unlikely be high though.
.

382  General / Tips and tricks / SEARCH ENGINES on: November 07, 2011, 15:35:30 PM
A recent question about "Search Engines", got me thinking (ouch).

A list of search engines can be found at  http://www.thesearchenginelist.com/

Also , for the mathematIcally minded there is Alpha , by Wolfram ( the developer of MATHMATICA ), to be found @  http://www.wolframalpha.com/

There is also the Dmoz ,( the Open Directory Project ) : http://www.dmoz.org/

And for a new search engine , there is a truly unique one called WireDoo, caution , it is a startup ( in beta ),and it is being developed by M.C. Hammer  Grin         http://wiredoo.com/global/signup.html

My understanding is that that movie launched her career as opera singer ,to a very good start.
