You nailed it Anglo: What's this new currency's back-up? Gold, silver or US Dollars, Euros, nominal paper pieces again?!..

Or, mere peer trust?.. What is the real guarantee?

(Long ago I had suggested an "Int'l Endorsement Board" (EnDoBe) for Pardus, incl. yourself, so that we would all know when to upgrade. Same logic.)

... it'll will be difficult to just break even.

I didn't get the above "... to just break even" part, though:

1) Private banking commissions for moving money around the world?

2) FED (or other national central banks) interest rate(s) charged on US Government or others for just printing money and lending to them?

Who is to break even against whom?

Anyone experienced in bitcoins?

Wordpress.Com started accepting bitcoins as an alternative to credit cards and PayPal:

I am learning about bitcoins as I write. So don't ask me how exactly "mining" works  Smiley

Love, liking, attachment, loyalty, sentimentality, fraternity, brotherhood ... Fair enough.
But:
... the only thing is that we need to update security patches. ...
1) Is that (security patches) the "only" thing we need? Everything else is fine with Pardus?! What about LibreOffice?.. Latest hardware drivers?..
2) And, WHO is going to do the security patches? WHEN?

I understand you Richard. You have been a good friend. But there is no hope for Pardus any more. I hope to see you around after the New Year, at another Linux distro forum (either Mint or Mageia or Ubuntu). I am already registered at Mageia. If I change my mind and go to Mint or Ubuntu, I will still be using "dirse" (or something very similar, if dirse is taken) so that you remember me, like I will remember you.
5  Assistance / Download/Repos / Re: pardus-whoosh on: November 16, 2012, 02:16:41 AM
Why still bother with Pardus?!

A military commander once said: "Don't wash the dead. It is a waste of time. Just bury the dead. There is a war ahead awaiting you."

Assuming there will be a new Pardus in the future: "Pardus 2013", "Pardus 2014", etc. Who will announce it? Who will proclaim it? Who will be the endorser? Whose word shall we be supposed to trust at that time?

Let by-gones be by-gones.

Let's unite our forces in another Linux distribution. Windows 8 is already out there, charging billions of dollars to hundreds of millions of users.

Which Linux distro will be its best rival? Distrowatch top 3 has remained constant for months:
1) Mint
2) Mageia
3) Ubuntu

If even the Germans (a very disciplined, hard-working community) is shutting down Pardus repo by the end of year, that is a big sign, a big lesson to learn from.

Let the Turks suffer a bit more if they cannot do the math and get organized. Let them stay as mere translators, imitation artists, copy machines -- till they get their lesson once again.
6  General / The Pub / Thank You Thunderbird - Thank you Linus on: October 27, 2012, 04:51:59 AM
I just resurrected thousands of mails from pre-historia Smiley
CROSS PLATFORM is the term of my day.
Does any one know any other application, utility, etc. which works back-and-forth between Linux & Windows like Mozilla Thunderbird?
Such big inventions -- just like "live / install" versions, "hybrid iso"s (cd-dvd/usb), etc. help the public feel more at ease to at least give a try to Linux distros.

So well put. What else can I say Murat?
You killed me esp. with:
The people is busy with TV serials, Sport games etc.
A day will come (with this gidishat), half of the world population will be Hollywood, Bollywood, etc. actors & actresses, and the other half just an idiotic audience, a cattle herd: Satan's dream fulfilled.
8  General / Tips and tricks / Re: Replacement for Pardus: PCLinuxOS on: September 29, 2012, 01:13:44 AM
1) I had started this same discussion (also a poll) 3 months ago, seeking a Pardus "replacement". Back then jasperodus (a big asset) was here. He had made a few suggestions (Mageia, etc.). Some "touchy" people attacked the idea so I quit the topic, canceled the poll. Around then jasperodus left (I hope he returns some day).

2) Due to the delay of Anka (stable 64-bit repo, stable 32-bit repo, iso, etc. everything still unclear) I now see the "replacement" discussion becoming alive again. The initiative from SolusOS last month about PiSi cooperation was a new hope. I wonder how that's coming around?..

3) Last week I had a keyboard problem with Pardus, which I shared here. Thanks to TicoLinux, I learned that the same problem had been reported here and solved a long time ago (the key being the startx terminal (Konsole) command probably common to many Linux distros?). I felt very happy that this forum still exists. I hope it exists for at least until the year end. This forum is a good database which should live as long as it can. I am so sorry to hear that pardususer.de will close by the end of 2012.

All the above made me reconsider some issues and here is my proposal:

1) Let's keep this forum (domain name rights, etc.) even after 2012. This forum has a good design, very practical, simplistic, not too fancy, does its job quite well. Headings, sub-headings, moving them around, colors, characters, formatting, replying, easily and selectively quoting, and many other features are a big investment not to be lost.

2) If Pardus/Anka becomes really dead in the future, we can gradually evolve this forum into a broader, more general forum about various Linux distros and even Linux in general. We can rearrange the headings and sub-headings, depending on most frequent questions & comments concerning Linux generally and most popular specific distros. For example:

- common terminal (Konsole, Guake, etc.) commands,

- file structures (root, home, mnt, opt, dev, media, etc.),

- downloading and installing printer, etc. drivers,

- promoting the use of "live" iso's (especially for those who want to switch from Windows to Linux), which I say is one of the greatest inventions on this planet  Cheesy

- working with hybrid iso's (CD, DVD, USB, etc.), again, a great invention against MS/Windows,

- and, many other most common Linux hints & tips, discussions...

3) I see this evolution has already started in this forum Wink

P.S.: Please let me know if there is a forum, a website which exists already, like the one I tried to describe (envisage) above?
9  General / The Pub / Antitrust Investigation Against Microsoft in Turkey on: September 27, 2012, 05:50:51 AM
This is actually old news, going back half a decade. It is enlivened nowadays:
http://www.takvimhaber.com/haber/bilim-teknoloji/13122-linuxun-yayilmasini-kim-onledi.html

Turkish Antitrust Authority (Competition Board) is investigating Microsoft for using unfair competition tactics against Linux in Turkey (I am using broad legal terminology, mixing American & European legal terms).

The boss of the Turkish company "Gelecek A.S." ("(The) Future Inc.") has started the fight years ago. In the meantime, his company has died (dissolved & under liquidation), but the legal investigation against MS is going on.

Turkish Antitrust Authority is somewhat like a government agency, but also independent (like FDA, FCC, SEC, etc. in the U.S). It is one of the strongest governmental bodies in Turkey.

The funny thing is, current Turkish government (the prime minister, his cabinet, limited circle) is pro-Islam (actually, liberals / conservatives economy-wise, outright capitalists). Yet, there are more "pro-Islam"s in Turkey (but, not like those fundemantalists in Afghanistan). And, these side with the left-wing! Hence, Linux / free software is supported by these pro-Islams (mixed with Turkish ultra-nationalists, softer Kemalists, harder Marxists, all in a hub).

Let's see the outcome of this investigation. There is already a crack within the Turkish government as to "who is more Muslim, real Muslim and, who is more national?"

I hope Linux benefits from all this Babylonian Towerish atmosphere. God works in mysterious ways Wink

@ TicoLinux: Thank you very much. Open sesame!  Cheesy The command startx is great to know. Problem solved!

@ All: Should I remove (delete) this heading since the same problem and its solution is already at the link TicoLinux posted above?
12  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / How to change keyboard properties via Konsole? on: September 25, 2012, 04:55:19 AM
I use a certain brand of keyboard.

Earlier, by default, it was listed as "Generic ..." in Pardus:

System Settings > Input Devices > Keyboard > Hardware > Keyboard Model > Generic ...

To use all functions of the special brand, I switched to the brand name (closest model).

It worked fine in that session, the same way (but, without any improved functions).

YET, upon restart, I can no more type in my user name and password. So, I can't start Pardus to switch back to "Generic ...". Keyboard does not function at all.

I connected another keyboard, same result (doesn't function).

HOWEVER, Pardus allows me to start Konsole (via mouse clicks) and only then keyboard works -- i.e., only in that mode (Konsole).

What commands do I need at Konsole to switch back to "Generic ..." keyboard?
