I had a similar problem after the update of pardus 2007.1 and I solved it uninstalling alsa driver and compiling the driver downloaded from the alsa project site. but now I'm using pardus 2007.2 beta and everything is going perfectly out of the box , so I suggest you try this beta

I'm trying the beta and so far I have to say that is really great! To install pardus 2007.1 on my hp pavillion with a nvidia 7500LE I had to choose the standard graphic mode, but in 2007.2 beta I got no issues with the normal way. moreover the italian language has been added and I am happy about that also the fact that one can choose to give root privilegies to the user created I think is a good addition. thanks

fixed!!! I've solved uninstalling the new alsa driver 1.0.14rc3, downloading the stable 1.0.13 from http://www.alsa-project.org/ and compiling from source. after the reboot everything was perfect so there is a bug in the new alsa driver at least I can continue using Pardus just in case someone had the same issue, I've installed pardus again and with the new 1.0.14rc4 alsa driver in the repos even after the system update everything runs smoothly. so, no more need to compile anything

You must run alsaconf as root.
Jan. I run it as root, the process goes till the end with this final message: Now ALSA is ready to use. For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer. Have a lot of fun! but the problem is still there: I and I can't hear any sound unless I reboot with the old kernel

yesterday I let pisi update my pardus 2007.1 and when I restarted I got this message:
Sound server informational message: Error while initializing the sound driver: device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory) The sound server will continue, using the null output device.
If the system is booted using the previous kernel (2.18.8-80) everything goes well. only booting with the new kernel (2.18.8-82) I get that problem
using the command alsaconf nothing happens any suggestion?
