They've never removed an old repo from their servers in the past...

That is true .. so what are they go to remove? They can move it to the 2011_endoflife directory. But
if they go to remove the dev directory, is that not say enough that there will be no more development
anymore? So what they (probely not the developers at Pardus, but the guys/girls that give orders) want
to tell in that workshop? That they drop the development directory?

Yes .. thanks ludo ..

And Pardus will never disappear, in what way we not know yet, but there will
allways be Pardus Linux because its to good to let go out ..

It looks that there is for the first time a kind of official response on a post on the
mailing list.

Gökhan Özbulak (i do not know if he is a developer of Pardus, but i think he is)
give a reaction on the post that Selim did.

He also talk about that we must wait till the end of march, and tll that time we need
to support the developers who are left at TUBITAK.
I send some response back, part of the response is personal, and i hope that the
people at TUBITAK who make the rules and orders give a reaction on it. And that
they take the community serious, and will see the power of Pardus.

I post a message on the Dutch Pardus forum to find out how many Dutch speaking
members want to help with this fork.

Hi namcojoulder and yoyo,

It is good to see and hear this news from the both of you.

I also think we need a fork if we want to keep the Pardus rocks.

We have a fork topic here http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php?topic=4312.msg23714;topicseen#msg23714

So place here any news or other things about a fork.

The situation now is:
- We got people from Turkey (and maybe some of the original Pardus developers)
- We got people from the USA
- We got people from Russia
- We got people from Germany
- We got people from Spain
- We got people from the Netherlands

Let get this Pardus rocks as it never did before Smiley

I am ready to start with a Pardus fork  Grin

Little about me:
- Linux user since 1997, and follow Pardus almost since it started.
- I am not a linux developer, but i can develop small programs in PHP, C#, Pyton, Pascal.
- Blog about Pardus in Dutch on http://opensourcefrog.blogspot.com/

How i can help:
- Write about Pardus.
- Create pisi packages.
- Maybe some artwork.
277  Assistance / News & Announcements / Pardus Fork on: January 27, 2012, 21:26:07 PM
There are people who like to start a fork of Pardus.
In this topic you can put information about the fork, youself, ideas, everything to keep the Pardus alive.
278  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: January 27, 2012, 19:38:15 PM
So we need to join ..

There is a turkish communtiy (see the message above) ...
There is this worldforum communtiy ..
There is pardususer.de, the spanish and russian for packages (think they also need to join)

Maybe some of the old developers can help us?

What we need is kernel developers.
KDE developers.
Developers for the specific Pardus tools like pisi, yali, kaptan, etc
Think we got enough packagers, but new are allways welcome. (and for every piece of software are build files)
We need to join the website to one new Pardus website.

And if we can update the kernel and use the newest KDE we can create the 2012 soon, or not?

Can we create a list of people who like to fork Pardus, from all the communities on the world?
Your name, your skills, etc.

Ok .. maybe IRC is a good start ..

We are reading mail-lists, but not official announcements  Sad

The message on the mailing-list is from Semen Cirit, working at TIBITAK. So that is an
official announcement. But still no news about 2012 or ....?
And its is now already 3 months + 1 month (january 2012) = 4 months reorganization and
no development or news (only that there will be some workshop, when??).

But it is not very tactical to send a message about end of life 2011 right now (and after one year?)
and not any real news about the future yet.
281  General / General topics / Re: Pardus End of Life on: January 27, 2012, 09:24:06 AM
So if 2011 reach end of life, can the community build there own update packages?
There is still no sign for any new version ... so what are we gonna do as community?

I JUST set up a new computer lab at our school running Pardus 2011.2:

http://www.jordanschool.com/technology-center/pardus-2011-2-linux-at-jcs/

I'm not going anywhere!

Pardus rocks!

Great that this school using Pardus, only i hope it is not for nothing (end of life 2011, and still no future plans)

Hello,

Pardus 2011 family, that has made the first stable release on 21 January 2011, followed by 2011.1 and 2011.2 releases, has reached end of life. From now on, any future software updates won't be made for Pardus 2011.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this version and use

http://liste.pardus.org.tr/pardus-devel/2012-January/002330.html

Huh? This is really getting strange .. 2011 reach end of life? After one year?
What is this?
And now what? More waiting? I just want more information and i think that should give
the community more information then they do now. I know that there are reorganization, etc
but i also know that there already are plans (this is how those things work). So the people at TURBITAK
give the community more information then just a message that 2011 reach end of life.

I think a Pardus Fork would be a good Idea. I will use Pardus for now, If it ends I will get either Chakra or Debian.
Might I remind you that there are few discontinued distros that died and got continuations/forks like
MOPSlinux = Agilia
QIlinux = openmamba
opensolaris = openindiana

Btw I have been following this thread for a while, I was waiting for my account to be accepted by the mods.
From Malta (Probably the only user in this country)

Welcome Merkur  Cheesy

And waiting so long for your account is not usual, or is it? (maybe the mod(s) was on holiday).

But ... happy Pardus using

I for one am still hear as the ship is not sinking, just sitting in port, refitting, so to speak.  I have learned to be patient.

Just yesterday I installed K-9Copy, a much used software for me that I didn't know was available for Pardus 2011.2 as I assumed it was only available for the KDE 3.5.10 desktop. Thanks to pardususer repository for including this software.
I for one had to drop the Corporate 2 edition due to the default install of virtual stuff and not being able to ping.  So I am glad 2011.2 is still here for me and still my go-to operating system.
