Assistance / Installing Pardus / Re: Install problem P2009.2 [SOLVED]

Hallo Atolboo,
A bit of feedback: Due to problems with my desktop work-PC I have been a view days out of the air.
In the mean time I had an other graphic card installed from the list in the WIKI supporting the Pardus 2007 version. (It is still a pity that such a list is not available or difficult to find for recent repo's; it would prevent a lot of unnecessary trouble. I don't know how to get such a message to Turkey.)
With the new card my problem was solved and I had the latest P2009.2 installed and running.
Greeting from Peter

Hallo, As far as I know the Upgrade manager in P2008 is called Package Manager and there I have the 2 addresses: 2008.2 and contrib. Than I did the following: * no programms working, * Start Konsole in System, * su * sudo pisi up, -c system.base With the above mentioned result. What am I doing wrong! Gr P

Good morning, As you said, I left the Pack Manager do its work with only the 2008.2 and contrib in the addresses. The result was the message: " 2008.2 complete and contrib complete. No packages to be updated/upgraded."
So, what' s next? I am out of posibilities.
Gr, Peter

Hallo I tried option 2, updated 2008.2. all right. Than I added in Pisi the 2009 turkish address, (I left the 2008.2 and the contrib in the list) and upgraded in the console with: sudo pisi up -c system.base. All the packages were downloaded. Somewhere in the process it stopped with the message that the Python pack failed. So that route did not work for me?! I still think it has something to do with the Graph card. In the WIKI I found the list of known Graph cards for P 2007, which is rather old. I assume there is a list somewhere of the 2009 repo. I would be very pleased to get that list, so I can change the card at my supplier.

I downloaded from the dutch as well as from the turkish mirror and burned them at the lowest possible speed (2,4) on separate DVD' s . I used the 2009.1 CD before on the old PC without any problem, but this CD shows the same problem on he new one. The video-options showed sometimes 800x600 and sometimes 1280x1024, the latter is the good one.
I did' t try the text Mode. I will try, before the heat slows me down.

Assistance / Installing Pardus / Install problem P2009.2

Hallo, I had to buy een new desktop and wanted to install the latest Pardus 2009.2. The installation just stopped after a few seconds in the wellknown picture (purple) with the question wether I agree or not agree conditions: no text at all in the visible small windows. Than I tried an older version: P2008.2. That went allright. In System information I noticed : Screen--- Unknown model [nVidia Corporation]. The graphic card is" Nvidia PCI-Express G210-512MB", a card about half a year old. In the old PC I had " Nvidia PCI-Express 7300S-256 MB, which did allright with P 2009.2. A Can this newer card be the problem? B How do I tackle this ? C Is there a list of cards supported by P 2009.2 and where can I find it?
I 'd like some support to tackle this problem. Thanks, Peter

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / how to install nonstandard programs
|
on: June 14, 2007, 12:02:31 PM

Hello, I want to install a program (gnucash; for the club) which is not standard for Pardus 2007.1, but is mentioned in the packagelist in Pardus Distrowatch. I tried to find help in the forum, etc., how to download, extract (if necessary) and install; but could only find info about RPM and nothing about Pisi. I would be very pleased to get help on this point and finally leave Windows XP behind for this program to!
Thanks a lot

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Backup personal settings; solved
|

Hallo, I just installed X for the 3rd time. This seems to be quite normal. But it would be pleasant to be able to backup the personal settings of the programs that are being used. In Windows XP is "Docs&settings" a very usefull map for a backup. I expect a similar or possibly a better way in X for this purpose. Can anyone tell me how to do this? (Mind you, I am an early apprentice and would appreciate some detail instructions).

Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Pardus stops halfway init?
|

Dual boot XP on C and P 2007 on D
Have installed P 2007 and after some troubles, i did a partial upgrade (KDE). After startup the PC i had to choose out of three possibilities; i choose for the new one. During init it was asked for username and password. I did and the following appeared: username@pardus ~ $ And than stops my knowledge (early apprentice, you see).
How do i get back in the graphical picture of P 2007?
Hope you can help me out.
Thanks, Peter
