16  Assistance / Pardus Project / OSOR.EU Pardus Linux Case Study on: December 22, 2008, 16:48:16 PM
OSOR.EU has a comprehensive case study, describing the organizational structure  and the history of the Pardus project. It also offers an overview of the archictecture (pisi, comar, yali...) and details legal issues like the inclusion of non-free software.  It also talks about release management and quality assurance and about the role of the community in the development of Pardus.  A great read for those interested in the background of this Linux distribution.

Atolboo,

perhaps we should put this in the "Requests" section of the forum so that someone might pick it up.

It would be great if (a) the Pardus home page linked to the Wiki, and/or (b) if a form of those installation instructions, maybe in .pdf, was available right from the home page. There is a link up there, but it points to installation of the 2007 model.

I completely agree with you Mourningdove, it would be very helpful if the Pardus homepage (http://www.pardus.org.tr/eng/) would contain a direct link the the wiki.

sksowe,

you might try the IRC channels at irc.freenode.org:

#pardus and #pardus-devel (where the devs hang out)

They're both mainly Turkish speaking but in my experience are very friendly and will try to help you out.

Then there's the Pardus devel mailinglist at http://liste.pardus.org.tr/mailman/listinfo/pardus-devel

Hope that helps,
Alex

Great work atolboo :-)
21  General / Wish list / Re: More English documentation for Pardus on: August 29, 2008, 12:06:44 PM
thanks miltonjohn2,

I just asked for feedback from the devs on the status of the bug. I'm curious to see if there will be a reply...
22  General / Wish list / Re: More English documentation for Pardus on: August 29, 2008, 09:38:00 AM
Willem,

there definitely is a need for more documentation from the Pardus developers about things like the architecture of the system, pisi, comar, etc. Also, there is *no* link on the official Pardus site to either the wiki or the forums!

It would als really be a big help if the bug system were English instead of Turkish. I know the system itself is English but most of the bug descriptions are in Turkish. This makes it very hard for users to see if a particular bug is already known.

I have been quite active in these forums and have really tried to help out new users (and still do occasionally). I do like Pardus but have switched to another distribution for my main system because of the aforementioned reasons. I suspect I am not the only one...
23  Assistance / Pardus Project / Other Pardus-Linux Forums on: August 26, 2008, 12:42:13 PM
Andreas, the first one on your list is in Turkish. That won't help many people around here...

Wouldn't it be a better idea to concentrate the Pardus forum in *one* place? (like here, as it is the one that exists longer than all the other ones). As it is, the documentation is scarce enough. Just my view of things...
24  Assistance / Pardus Project / Re: Translation issues / REQUEST on: August 25, 2008, 17:08:31 PM
That's good to hear :-)

I'll be sure to keep an eye on www.PardusUser.de. Thanks again!

That's great news G├╝rkan. Do keep us posted.

I'd still like to hear from the Pardus project members on this matter. I keep repeating myself: we need more documentation translated from Turkish into English (and other languages).

ah, thanks Andreas. I've put my vote in again ;-)
27  General / Wish list / More English documentation for Pardus on: August 23, 2008, 08:34:19 AM

Since this seems to be the place the Pardus developers  look for user requests I've taken the liberty of copying a link to this thread here:

http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php?topic=2061.0

If this distro is to gain any momentum it really needs more documentation in other languages than Turkish.
28  Assistance / Pardus Project / Re: Translation issues / REQUEST on: August 23, 2008, 08:29:30 AM
The continuous lack of good documentation in English is one of the main reasons why Pardus isn't more popular outside Turkey I think. It has so much going for it, but it will fail to attract a broader international community without up-to-date howtos, manuals and other docs.

I strongly urge the Pardus project team to do something about this.

Thanks for the link to the WordPerfect site Mourningdove. Will definitely check it out, used to be a big fan of this wordprocessor back in the old days ;-)

Cheers,
Alex

Any reason why the voting is closed Andreas?
It's still interesting reading people's motivations to use a specific browser.
