Missed that thread. Thanks for the updates. Guess it will happen when it happens.

When I installed pardus 2011 I was impressed by how up to date it was, 2.6.37 kernel and kde 4.5.5. But while other distros I have installed have moved to 4.6 and even 4.6.1, pardus has remained at 4.5.5. I'll admit I don't follow these forums too closely but I haven't seen any threads mentioning there was a problem or delay.

Is there something wrong my repository setup?

There just doesn't seem to have been many updates at all compared to other distros I use frequently - Arch, PClinuxOS, Sabayon, Mint, Korora, Bohdi.

Or is that just how things are?

I already had a fully up to date 2011 RC install but decided to do a new install with the 2011 disk. It was a great experience. The installer is slick. And I saw Kaptan for the first time in the 2011 series of iso's.

The install was fast, easy, and complete. I currently have 9 other distros installed on my machine and this has instantly vaulted into a competition with Arch as my favourite.

Well done and a great job by all. I really hope Pardus becomes more well known and I will do what I can to spread the word.

(Any chance putty gets put in the repos?)

I did get this installed after my 9 hour download. No kaptan (does it still exist?), but the ati driver finally installed. I have black dashes flickering across the top line of my screen. This is with a Sapphire HD5770 card on a Samsung SyncMaster 204B monitor. I have Win 7, XP, and currently 9 other distros installed and I've never seen this issue.

Other than that everything seems to be very good so far. The combination of kernel, video driver and kde 4.5.5 easily make the most up to date of the distros I have installed.

It would be nice to have some way of identifying newly available packages in the package manager.

Happy New Year to all also....

Speed now 27-30 kps, only 3 3/4 hours to go.   Grin

After all this I hope the ati drivers and kaptan finally work. No version of 2011 has worked properly for me yet.

Downloading http://ftp.pardus.org.tr/pub/ISO/Installation/2011/RC/Pardus-2011-RC-Hasankeyf-x86_64.iso produces Download.png at this moment
Total download time will be ~ 9 minutes.

That link gave me 30kbs with a 10 1/2 hour download. The ftp2 links gave me 33kbs and 9 1/2 hour downloads. Guess it's just going to be a long day.....

I'm in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It's doing about 30-40 kbs.

Just randomly picked dragora and moonos off the distrowatch page as a test. Getting 135 and 900 kbs respectively. Pardus now at 28.5-33.5 kbs.

I have a high speed cable internet connection and am looking at about a 9 hour download for both types of install isos. Are you really trying to encourage people to try Pardus?

Try this:    Alt+F2 and enter kaptan + <enter>.

Nothing happened. Kaptan is there as when I try to install it pisi says it is already there. If I try to run it from cli it craps out also. I tried running "kdesu(do) kaptan" but get told kdesu(do) isn't there. I looked for it but couldn't find it.

I installed the fglrx modules from the package manager and then ran "aticonfig --initial" like I usually do in other distros to activate it. Now Pardus stalls at the initial boot screen.

I know, I know, it's a beta. But I do like Pardus and haven't had a good install of it since I got my new ati video card a few months ago.

kaptan did not run after install for both 686 and x86_64 installs. I can't get it to start manually either. Is there a contrib repository to add yet?

Also is there a way to add the ati driver? In past I can remember adding it through somewhere in the system settings but I don't see it now. I also can't find catalyst anywhere.

I think Pardus is one of the best, if not the best KDE distro out there.  Cheesy

Agreed. I currently have Pclinuxos, Chakra, Sabayon, Sidux, Arch, Unity, and Mandriva installed and this Pardus beta has become my default distro. I love how it's Dolphin will display a particular partition as "/mnt/sda12" instead of the more generic "/mnt/disk" the other distros display. Is that a setting or what?

Pardus has a pretty up to date kernel, not as current as Arch or Sidux, and has very fast performance. And it looks great.

Other than the smaller repositories the only problem I can think of is the package manager not having an option to show newly added programs instead of just all not installed ones.

That works great, thank you.

Links don't seem to be working. Keep getting redirected to http://microfocus.com/  (in Opera anyway, Firefox and Arora just give me a can't connect message)
