Assistance / Installing Pardus / Pardus 2008 installer error?
|
on: June 28, 2008, 20:57:16 PM
|
Hi! I've been trying to install the latest Pardus onto my IBM T41. The install CD does boot up, but after setting all the options and hitting "Install now" (or similar) an error message pops up. It says: "Warning! The kernel was unable to re-read the partition table on /dev/sda (Device or resource busy). This means Linux won't know anything about the modifications you made until you reboot. You should reboot your computer before doing anything with /dev/sda." I tried changing some options and ways to configure the partitions, but it's always the same. Any help? Thanks (or, maybe an alternative way installing the system, please help )

International Pardus Users / Polish / Pardus w zastosowaniach

Działał dość sprawnie (wersja 2007.2) mimo starszego Xeona z 512MB ramu, który dostaliśmy dobre kilka lat temu z rozdzielnika z MEN. A jak u was? Czy ktoś tego naprawdę używa ? Pozdrawiam

General / Wish list / MySQL GUI Tools

Hi, I'm considering using Pardus as a teaching tool (basic Linux administration and C/C++/Python and php/sql programming).
I think adding those MySQL GUI Tools would be positive for the learning process. Most of the students are better suited with a GUI tool at the beginning.
Thanks

Assistance / Software / apache upgrades overwrting .html files?
|

Hi,
is it possible, that apache upgrades are (always) overwriting the files in /var/www/localhost/htdocs (index.html, etc.) with the installations default ?
I've had it a few times - anybody else too? Is there a way to avoid it?
Thanks

Assistance / Installing Pardus / Re: Toshiba satellite a200 installation problem

I followed the link to the previous post you mentioned and appending xorg=safe at the kernel string did the job!
The installation followed using the vesa driver. Though the system boots up to the vesa 800x600 resolution instead of the intel 965 1280x800 wide, I'll try it with a kernel compile.
So, the graphics card was fault. Again, thanks for the tip!

Assistance / Installing Pardus / Toshiba satellite a200 installation problem

Hi, I can't get Pardus 2007.2 onto my recently bought Toshiba.
I've been trying all the installer options, but the system won't switch to the installer GUI.
This notebook suits a Pentium CoreDuo, a ICH8 controlled sata hard disk, an intel 965 integrated graphics card (that's how it's detected, some specs say its a intel x3100).
The problem seems to be the graphics card / switching the graphics mode.
Anyone had such a (strange) issue?

After a succesful installation you have to run service vsftpd start to start it or service vsftpd on to have it launched automatically with every system start.

General / General topics / Re: Which Kernel?

I voted for "some other" because though I understand that Pardus is a long development cycle distro, opensource is about innovation. New versions appear frequent and bring some new features. That's why it's useful to have the latest Gimp or OpenOffice. The same goes for the kernel - the latest is the greatest - wouldn't there have been that little issue: it's the foundation for the system and changing it can break so many things. What a pity... Edit #1: After second reading Eren.Turkay's post, I've downloaded kernel 2.6.23.1 source, configured and compiled it. It runs d*mn bloody well

I just want to say, we've got Pardus into this box and it works fine! And, BTW, all current Microsoft server systems are GUI anyway To tell a secret: we tried openSuse, Ubuntu server and Slackware, but Pardus just did it. Other candidates had stranges issues (networking problems on Ubuntu, . The news about Pardus is spreading and we're happy now!
