Updating the package didn't help. Don't know what will work, didn't had this issue with any other bistro.
32  Assistance / Software / Package not upgrading on: November 30, 2007, 08:10:29 AM
I created a cups 1.3.4 package using pisibul from the devel repo. And then i used the command
Code:
sudo pisi it cups-1.3.4-41.pisi
to install it but the pisi GUI still shows the version to be 1.2.11

Pisi check shows:

Code:
pisi check cups
* Checking cups...
I/O Error: Cannot calculate SHA1 hash of /usr/lib/cups/backend/ipp

I/O Error: Cannot calculate SHA1 hash of /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd
OK

But, cups-config --version shows:

Code:
cups-config --version
1.3.4

I build the package using this command:

Code:
sudo pisi bi http://svn.pardus.org.tr/pardus/devel/applications/printing/cups/pspec.xml

I'll take a look for it, will update to newer version and want you to try, could you wait 2 or 3 days? I wish, I could make it earlier but I have to study my exams Sad

I hope your exams are over by now and hope they went well. Just wondering if you have started on the cups package.
36  General / General topics / Re: Which Web Browser? on: November 29, 2007, 07:23:05 AM
I have voted for opera and generaly share the same opinion about it as jaideep_jdof, however, flash doesn`t work as it should. I can`t watch videos on google video or youtube. Firefox doesn`t have that kind of problems. Despite flash problems (it says it is installed correcty) I still use Opera as my primary/default web browser.

regards bandito

All the flash and mplayer issues are resolved in opera 9.5, its in beta stage.
37  General / General topics / Which Web Browser? on: November 28, 2007, 19:59:46 PM
I think firefox is over hiped, with every new release its becoming more and more blotted. It started of as a light weight browser but now look at its state it takes quite some time to startup and little more time to render the pages. Sad

But opera on the other hand take much lesser time to startup and to render a page and its much lighter. Smiley

Please vote and post your opinion.
38  General / General topics / Re: Which Kernel? on: November 20, 2007, 20:58:06 PM
Can you please tell me how can I install vanilla kernel ? I don't know how to do that.

Seconded.

I was going to start a new thread asking why pardus is still on 2.6.18 but I guess others have the same question.

I installed 2007.3 last night and although I haven't had time to play with it much it seems to have all the pardus goodness I remember from before and is very fast and responsive. But, for a distro that comes ootb with firefox 2.0.0.9 and kde 3.5.8, why is it still with 2.6.18?

I boot about 8 other distros on my machine and most have a version of 2.6.22, one is 2.6.20 something and a couple are at 2.6.23. I'm the first to admit I know nothing about kernels but don't later versions increase peripheral useability with new drivers and such?

Anyway, very happy with what pardus has given this time but just curious about the kernel version thing.
I think pardus follows a yearly release policy and bug fix during the year so may be the will update to kernel 2.6.20 series in version 2008.

You have to wait for the bug to be fixed or just compile the latest version of cups, and if you do compile then send me the package.Wink
40  General / Wish list / Re: some whishes on: November 16, 2007, 16:51:38 PM
One generally expects that the distro you install also provide for the recovery and its not too much to expect, just a recovery shell.

42  Assistance / Software / Re: enabling compiz on: November 02, 2007, 13:56:41 PM
How do I restrict this virtual desktop creation to 4. Your trick for virtual desktops didn't work. Hey one more thing, firefox feels bit choppy.
43  Assistance / Software / Re: enabling compiz on: November 01, 2007, 21:14:54 PM
With compiz fusion when i play any movie, the audio is there but no video. I have installed compiz using the above howto and installed all the package except for unsupported plugins.

And another problem, I have two virtual desktops enabled, but with compiz it becomes 8.

Why don't you put in the official repo.
45  General / General topics / Re: Which Kernel? on: October 30, 2007, 19:46:27 PM
I feel sooner or later we have to move to kernel 2.6.20 whether its good or bad. Anyway there will be no kernel 3.0.00 according to Mr. Linus.
