16  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Pardus Fork on: April 06, 2012, 11:53:41 AM
It's coming from the workshop :
Quote
International distribution should start using another distribution as a base could make work load off relatively.

"another" means no mudur, no comar, no pisi, in short : no more Pardus specific technologies.
Mudur, comar and pisi subsytems are intricated and designed to benefit from each other in order to deliver the essence of Pardus.

Forget about the workshop. They decided to abandon all that made Pardus an original and unique Linux distribution, all the great thoughts and work accomplished by the turkish developpers.

First things first, we need to find a new project leader, preferably someone who is not turkish, to break the linguistic dependance and limitations - enough with this obscurity ! - and put all the pardus code on an european server.

Project leader candidates, raise your hands. Each leader candidate will have to present itself to the community of users, and expose his strategy to make NewPardus a reality (objectives, ways and means, developpers recruitment).
It's election time !
18  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Pardus Roadmap - Workshop on: March 30, 2012, 09:02:47 AM
As I understood, the developpers who left their projects don't want to work on it anymore, or cannot anymore. It may be time to fork Pardus Linux to save its code base, then.
Who wants to be the chief of the new Pardus project ?
19  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Pardus Roadmap - Workshop on: March 29, 2012, 23:08:02 PM
Guys, this is not a roadmap, this is nonsence.

I'm afraid it may very well have this sense : they want to kill Pardus as we know it and transform it into an Ubuntu with extensive turkish language support.

What can we do without developpers that have both the willingness and the ability to write code the Pardus way ?

21  General / Tips and tricks / Re: Update Firefox Automatically on: January 03, 2012, 23:00:53 PM
Have you added the "devel" repository or have you just downloaded and installed the package ? Have you mixed stable and developpment repositories ?

Firefox dependancies are :
fontconfig gtk2 pango cairo libIDL startup-notification dbus-glib hunspell libproxy nspr
nss libevent libvpx atk jpeg libXt gconf pixman libXext freetype alsa-lib gnome-vfs
libnotify gdk-pixbuf libXrender

I am using Firefox 9 from the 12/09/2011 update.

In this regard, rolling distros have an edge, however, the negative side is too many updates on a daily basis.  Shocked
To use Pardus as a rolling release, just use http://packages.pardus.org.tr/pardus/2011/devel/i686/pisi-index.xml.xz as package repository.

26  Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Re: translation & svn on: June 09, 2011, 07:37:23 AM
If you want to become translator, you have to apply on the translator's mailing list :
http://liste.pardus.org.tr/mailman/listinfo/pardus-translators

We don't use SVN anymore for translation. Everything is managed by the Transifex website. Here is a quick guide about it : http://developer.pardus.org.tr/guides/newcontributor/introduction-to-translation.html

This reviewer is not very serious. According to him, a stable distribution is a distribution that doesn't crash immediately after its installation !
30  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Computer name Pardus 2011 on: February 16, 2011, 12:16:34 PM
You can set it up with the hostname command from Konsole. You need administrative privileges to do this. See
Code:
man hostname
for additional information.
