Here are the steps to follow :1. Sign up and log in 2. Download http://hardware4linux.info/res/hwreport-0.9.4.tar.bz23. Extract by a right clic > "Extract here" 4. Check that the peripherals are plugged in (printer, etc.) 5. Open a terminal where you extracted the archive 6. Type cd hwreport-0.9.47. Then make8. Log in root mode ( su) 9. Type ./hwreport /tmp/report10. Upload the generated report file /tmp/report.tar.bz2 Currently, there are : Pardus 2007.2 : 8 systems Pardus 2007.3 : 5 systems And Pardus is 34th at http://hardware4linux.info/stats/#osWe can do better than this.

Actually, there is a Pardus package of hwreport, but it doesn't work ("scan-printers not found"). You have to download the hwreport tarball and build it from sources.
All my computers are registered on hardware4linux, I also encourage every Pardus users to do the same. Don't forget to plug in all your peripherals (printer, scanner, webcam, etc.)

General / Wish list / Better DNS by default
|
on: February 10, 2008, 00:19:36 AM
|
Hello, I recently found out about OpenDNS, and it's quite faster than the DNS that are shipped by default with Pardus. This is a minor wish, but still, I think it's worth it, don't you think ?

General / Wish list / Resizing of partitions in Yali
|
on: January 28, 2008, 15:00:23 PM
|
|
The resizing of ext3 and ntfs partitions in the Yali installer is too limited : we can't expand existing partitions to some free space, we can only reduce their sizes.
The most usable partition manager ever still remains Mandriva's.

If it really is thoses files that are causing trouble, you can try to rename them (by removind the dot, for example) su cd /usr/kde/3.5/share/applications/kde/ mv ./tasmakcmktalkd.desktop ./tasmakcmktalkddesktop mv ./tasmakcmlaunch.desktop ./tasmakcmlaunchdesktop mv ./tasmajoystick.desktop ./tasmajoystickdesktop mv ./tasmakcmkrfb.desktop ./tasmakcmkrfbdesktop mv ./tasmakcmlirc.desktop ./tasmakcmlircdesktop mv ./tasmakcmsmserver.desktop ./tasmakcmsmserverdesktop mv ./tasmabell.desktop ./tasmabelldesktop mv ./tasmaaudiocd.desktop ./tasmaaudiocddesktop mv ./tasmakcmkded.desktop ./tasmakcmkdeddesktop mv ./tasmakthememanager.desktop ./tasmakthememanagerdesktop mv ./tasmaspellchecking.desktop ./tasmaspellcheckingdesktop mv ./tasmakcmperformance.desktop ./tasmakcmperformancedesktop mv ./tasmadesktoppath.desktop ./tasmadesktoppathdesktop But I can't figure out how .desktop files can cause any conflict. Usually, they are just overwritten.

Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: How to read a midi file ?
|
on: January 22, 2008, 15:29:38 PM
|
I started timidity in Service Manager, but couldn't choose timidity as midi device because the "Select the Midi device" list was empty for some reason. Nevertheless, timidity now plays midi files successfully Thank you jnmbk ! The next thing, will be to configure Kmid, which complains that /dev/sequencer cannot be opened because another program is using it. Maybe timidity and Kmid cannot be used at the same time ? The strange thing is that there is no such file as /dev/sequencer, even in /dev/snd/*.

Hello, My Pardus 2007.3 fails to open a midi file. First attempt with timidity :timidity cgam.mid current/timidity.cfg: No such file or directory timidity: Can't read any configuration file. Please check /usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg Second attempt with Kmid.Error message : "cannot open /dev/sequencer. Another program may be using it." In order to know what program was using /dev/sequencer, I used fuser : fuser /dev/sequencer Cannot stat /dev/sequencer: No such file or directory KInfoCenter informs me that Mixer is not enabled and Audio, Midi and Synth devices are not enabled in alsa config [additionnal informations] sound driver : alsa 1.0.15 sound modules : snd_hda_intel (snd_hda_intel, snd_pcm, snd_timer, snd_hwdep) sound chipset : HDA Intel Midi devices : none

vesafb stands for VESA framebuffer driver. It is used to have a graphic mode at boot time.
What graphic card do you have on this PC ? onboard and/or standalone ?
What is your BIOS video setup ?

So, which translations do you need most? or if you have other topics, just reply this thread. I'll start translating next wednesday That would be smashing, jnmbk ! Personally, I am very frustrated about the COMAR turkish-only documentation webpages. Here and there.
