1  Assistance / Installing Pardus / Re: Pardus 2009 on: September 02, 2009, 11:08:10 AM
I have 2 ports one on motherboard and on on separate card.  Both are disconnected.  If I try connecting either port using Pardus network program I get a large pop up window.  Across the top of this window it says "System Policy prevents adding / editing connections - Policy Kit - KDE"   Lower down the windo it requires my passwd, having inserted passwd and ckicked OK noting useful happens and the window disappears.

Can I disable this policy kit?   Or must I make other changes to the system ?

Pardus installs easily and smoothly as expected but for some reason it does not make automatic connection to the network ports.   There is no problem with the network ports as they are recognized and enabled by Ububtu.  While trying to to set up the network ports I see messages about the Policy Kit.

Has any one else seen this problem?   Right now I need help as the problem is somewhat limiting, and I can't access the internet or add other facilities to Pardus.

3  Assistance / Software / Re: PHP5 on: May 07, 2008, 19:21:28 PM
My thanks Willem and Eren for helping to get PHP upgraded to the latest version and the ctype function enabled.

The Silverstripe CMS package now installs and runs very smoothly as required.  This is package that I can thoroughly recommend. It is easy to use and is very flexible.

Hi everyone,
I use Pardus in preference to other Linux distros.  It is easy to install and it runs very smoothly.  All the components for a server to run CMS packages are available - Apache, PHP, mysql - but I have a simple but serious problem that I have raised before in this forum in Dec 2007.  The post collected 288 reads but no helpful responses.
So what is my problem?   Simple really but I can't correct it but the Pardus development team certainly can and it is this: - PHP5 contains a function ctype that is enabled by default, according to PHP literature, but even in the latest version of PHP5 from the Pardus packages - build date Mar 22 2008 - ctype is deliberately disabled.   If this function is disabled for a good reason the can someone explain why?  If there is no reason for disabling ctype then can someone please get the situation changed.

I assume that Pardus developers read the forum - please prove it to us all and get this little matter resolved.

5  Assistance / Software / Pardus version of LAMP. on: December 27, 2007, 17:46:17 PM
Back in November I posted a query about a problem I have with the PHP package available in Pardus. This post has been read many times but no one has offered any opinion or suggestion.

I can readily accept that the query is somewhat pedantic but it is very real and important to me.

Pardus is delight to install and run, easy to update and I like it very much but I cannot use the built in Apache, PHP, Mysql web server package.  The problem remains and as far as I can see will remain until the Pardus PHP package is recompiled and made available as an upgrade.

The issue is simply that I am committed to the use of a CMS package called Silverstripe for website design. This package requires that the ctype function in PHP is enabled.  However in the Pardus version of PHP ctype is disabled.  This must have occurred when PHP was compiled by the Pardus software engineers because ctype is enabled by default in all modern versions of PHP.

How can we get this situation corrected.  I optimistically hope that these posts are read by the Pardus developers and that this kind of irritating problem is resolved as quickly as possible.  I may easily be the only one who suffers from the problem but I would like it corrected as soon as possible.  OK I could always remove Apache, PHP and Mysql from Pardus and replace them with a LAMP package from elsewhere - e.g Xampp.  But this is I firmly believe against the spirit of the very fine Pardus Linux Package.

Lets hope that the new year will produce some favorable reaction to this simple problem.
6  Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Pardus 2007.3 beta on: November 18, 2007, 19:37:32 PM
Can anyone help please?

I installed the new beta version and it runs very well. next I installed Apache2, PHP and Mysql.
Again they run very well but I find a problem with PHP when I try to run a SMS package called Silverstripe.  Silverstripe requires the PHP ctype facilities to be enabled - PHP documentation indicated that ctype is enabled by default in PHP version 5 but phpinfo() shows that ctype has been disabled.  It sugests that ctype was accidentially or deliberately when PHP was compiled.  Can the user recompile PHP or is there another way of enabling ctype.

All advice welcomed.
