1  General / General topics / Wi-Fi hardware... on: December 07, 2007, 12:06:25 PM
Hi,
Just read a couple of, very deserved, reviews concerning Pardus. The links are at the main Pardus site. The person mentions a couple of wi-fi receivers he tried it all out on, with success. I'd like to add the ones I've tried (hopefully it may help the wi-fi team). I have a Buffalo Wireless-G 125 PCI card (Broadcom chip). This got picked up during installation and after just typing the WPA in, it all worked beautifully.

This is THE first time with any Linux I've tried, that the wi-fi connection actually worked 'out-of'the-box' so, REALLY well done on that score. I also have a Zoom USB stick. I did try that with a default install, unfortunately this didn't get picked up. And rather than loose even more hair trying to install/configure, I put it quietly away in a drawer  Cheesy

I've been using Pardus for a couple of weeks now and, it just works! Totally trouble free and very stable, I still use W*****s for some other stuff I do, but for me, Pardus is and will continue for the future, be my OS of choice.

All the best for the coming holiday season and best wishes for the New Year to all.

Pete (UK).

Good news Kavani,

New day, new start.

Reloaded Pardus completely, thought Samsung printer may get found and loaded (fingers crossed). No, had to manually install. Visited forum, to find Kavani begging for forgiveness  Grin Follwed the instructions again...all worked fine! Kavani remains at top of My Heroes list.  Cheesy

Thank you very much, for your patience, Pardus rocks!

Pete,

Rushed home...tried the above instructions...zilch.

Tried renaming the file to just Unified Linux Driver.tar.gz...nothing.

Downloaded file again, type in the full name...complete with 17 digit number + underscore + UnifiedLinuxDriver.tar.gz...nothing.

Just keeps coming back no such file/folder/command etc.

Decide to run Linux box with no printer...will write all my theses out in long hand...sure to be quicker.

Regards,

Hi Kavani,
My apologies for sounding like a pedant, but...

the file as it downloaded; is titled:
20070720163117515_UnifiedLinuxDriver.tar.gz

So, after typing su...do I then type ALL that lot in? And then run ./cdroot/autorun...? I can't try it at the moment as I'm on another PC (I did try various ways of typing things in before posting - without success as you see  :'(). I'll try later on this evening (UK time). But truly, thank you for your help.

Kind regards,
Pete  Smiley

Hi,
I've got a Samsung ML-1610 laser printer. I've downloaded a Linux driver from the Sammy-site. So now, there's a 'Unified Linux Driver .tar.gz' sitting on my desktop. The Samsung instructions read like gobbledegook to me. I double click the tar file, it unpacks and a window opens with a lot of lines in it, adding to my considerable confusion. Below are the Samsung instructions:

[Unified Linux Driver (Samsung ML-1610) Install Guide]

1. Make sure that you connect your machine to your computer.
Turn both the computer and the machine on.

2. When the Administrator Login window appears, type in root in the Login field
and enter the system password.

3. Download and extract the driver
[root@localhost root]#tar xzf [Downloaded File Name(XXXX.tar.gz)]

4. The driver will be extracted as ''cdroot'' folder in current path.

5. Execute installation program.
[root@localhost root]#./cdroot/autorun

6. When the welcome screen appears, click ''Next'' and proceed installation.

I try typing what the Samsung instructions say, but get nowhere. I've tried adding a printer via Tasma, it just returns saying it can't install, because I don't have permission.

Can anyone explain, how to install the tar.gz driver for this printer please?

Just exactly what do I type? Do I type all the [ ] & ( ) brackets? Why can't things be written in understandable languages?

TIA,
Pete  Huh?

YALU from the UK,

I've just made that up! Yet Another Linux User...apologies if someone thought of it before me  Cheesy

My first Linux that does everything (for me) out of the box, including wireless access to the great beyond...most excellent, well done Team Pardus. And greetings to all other Pardus-people on this forum.

Upwards and onwards,
