16  Assistance / Software / Re: Clam or Klam? on: July 01, 2008, 15:52:45 PM
I was thinking of giving that a try, but I failed trying to install Kmymoney from the repos 2007 (another post in this forum.)  I wasn't able to figure how how to try to install a pisi file from console...I tried to duplicate what it looked like from your quoted example.  My pisi file is on my desktop so I changed the command to reflect that but it said that the directory wasn't found (or that it wasn't a directory...I don't remember!!)
17  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / background during desktop loading on: July 01, 2008, 15:49:43 PM
When Pardus 2008 is loading...it gets to the screen where it shows various things initializing (like the desktop).  The background during this is the blue "Pardus 2007" one...has anyone else experienced this and can it be changed?

I downloaded Kmymoney from the 2007 repo and when I clicked on it, it asked if I wanted to install.  I then clicked "continue" and it just disappears...stops...nothing...

Sorry...I don't know what you mean by it running under Pardus 2008 as freshclam.  I'm not finding freshclam in the repos nor installed as part of Pardus 2008...?  (If that's not a newbie question than I don't know what is!  :-)

Yes...I have tried them both with no results returned...are they in the repos or part of the Pardus 2008 install??
21  Assistance / Software / [solved]Clam or Klam? on: June 30, 2008, 20:54:33 PM
I'm not finding either Clam or Klam (anti-virus) in the repos...any chance of getting them added?
22  Assistance / Software / Re: Kmymoney on: June 30, 2008, 15:12:13 PM
I already had the Pardus & contrib repos.  I tried adding the users one and it said I didn't have the correct address.  Do I need to add /pisi-index.xml.bz2 after the address you gave?  Thanks!
23  Assistance / Software / [solved] Kmymoney on: June 30, 2008, 13:33:24 PM
I use Gnucash in Mepis and really like it.  Doesn't seem to be available in Pardus.  Pardus used to have Kmymoney in contrib. repo but can't find it there now.  Is there any money/financial software available in Pardus?

Thanks atolboo...that did the trick!  Appreciate it!
25  Assistance / Configuring Pardus / [solved]DBus error on: June 29, 2008, 20:18:27 PM
I just installed Pardus 2008.  When I try to connect to the internet, I get the following message:
Cannot connect to DBUS!  If it is not running you should start it with the 'service dbus start' command in a root terminal.
I have done this in a root terminal...without success.  Any suggestions?

I've been happily using Pardus 2007 and have done all of the periodic updates.  I've looked through the forum topics here and don't seem to see the answer to a question I have:  does the switch from 2007 to 2008 require a complete fresh install?  And if it does, will everything that I've tweaked in 2007 be lost?  Or...have the updates already brought me to 2008?  Thanks in advance!
27  Assistance / Software / Re: help!!! no sound anymore on: November 26, 2007, 15:54:12 PM
I too have problems with sound, though I might have improved things a bit this morning (I didn't have time to fully test it out!)  I downloaded & installed alsa from the repositories.  Then I went into Sound management, clicked on the hardware tab, and selected Advanced Linux Sound Architecture instead of Auto detect...then clicked apply.  I was able to play a CD through to completion, but video files are still a problem (they freeze and I think it's a sound issue.)
28  Assistance / Software / Re: Gnucash, or something similar on: November 26, 2007, 12:36:50 PM
I installed Pardus on my laptop yesterday (over Mepis) and same thing here...no sound.  I keep getting "artsmessage" notifications that the sound server is overloaded and to abort.  I click on the "OK" button and the notification goes away, only to have the computer freeze a few seconds later & then the message pops back up again.  When I reboot it seems to be all right (just no sound.)  With Mepis I was able to install a w32codec but don't see it available from Pardus.

Ilanesh:  I have liked Mepis 7, but I have had sound issues that I haven't been able to resolve (sound is fine for the first few minutes, and then it's gone.)  I also really like the visual look of Pardus better.  This linux stuff has been a real learning experience for me and I've enjoyed it a lot!
waterfietser:  thanks for the KMyMoney suggestion.  Thanks to Wiki I was able to figure out how to add the contrib repos and I installed the program yesterday.  Unfortunately I can't get it to import data from GnuCash but I might just begin a fresh start with KMyMoney.
30  Assistance / Pardus for beginners / Partitioning and installation on: November 24, 2007, 18:57:42 PM
My laptop is currently set up with Mepis & XP in a dual boot system.  My Mepis is installed on 3 partitions (root, home, and linux swap.)  Yesterday I installed Pardus as the sole operating system on an older desktop computer.  It appears that it installed to one large partition (with no linux swap, etc. designations.)  My question is this...can I install Pardus on my laptop to the 3 preexisting Mepis partitions?  My other question is this:  it looked like during the install on the older computer that grub can be installed to the mbr.  This is what I did with Mepis so that when the computer starts up I can choose between either XP or Mepis.  Is this same procedure also possible with Pardus?
