31  Assistance / News & Announcements / Re: Upgrade Pardus 2008 to Pardus 2009 on: November 11, 2009, 23:50:05 PM
So bad is not Pardus 2009 (but Pardus 2008.2 is very good). I upgraded my 2008.2 to 2009 with an experimental Upgrade-manager. This upgrade is substantial, as you know. There is much that can go wrong. But I have managed to correct the most obvious errors. I have now (audio) Radio, Film and more in the program VLC. Why the other multimedia applications do not want to work, I do not understand, Amarok, Kaffeine and others (no sound). System Sound is still missing. I hope that the Upgrade manager is ready by the next release of Pardus 2009.1. I hope that the errors for me in 2009 disappears when I upgrade to 2009.1. It might be nice to avoid a reinstallation.

I tested the new Upgrade Manager (Upgrade Pardus 2008 to Pardus 2009). I have upgraded my Pardus Pardus 2008.2 to 2009 it was excellent. I have managed to get the highest possible resolution and performance of my graphical environment.

I have no sound in Pardus 2009.

I have no sound. A common debugging is performed in kmix so nothing is crossed there. But the most serious is that when I go in to the menu (System-System Settings-Multimedia) When I click on Multimedia to start Multimedia, but Multimedia dies out and the whole system setup environment just disappear into a smoke. Stays with a normal desktop. If I did not come in Multimedia, I can not do a complete diagnostic of the sound. There are no problems with other applications that are in the system settings. All works without any problems, it's only multimedia, this error seems to be serious. I can not be without sound.

I now have sound in Firefox, can listen to the radio in Firefox. I have no sound in Amarok and other programs. No system sounds.

Summary :

Multimedia dies out and the whole system setup environment just disappear into a smoke.

I now have sound in Firefox, can listen to the radio in Firefox.

I have no sound in Amarok and other programs.

No system sounds.

Why use another forum if you are already on this forum? There arent any developers over there, so please stay Wink

You have wrong Willem. There is developers. How believe you we in Sweden got in aspell-sv in repository? But developers is a little discreet. I receive no contact on their web-page. Can you also try.

Note: make sure to create the ~/.asoundrc file in home first!

First of all we have to make PulseAudio support dmix. edit /etc/pulse/default.pa. Comment out "load-module module-hal-detect". Then, uncomment the following:

Code:

load-module load-module module-alsa-sink ....
load-module module-alsa-source ...

Replace
Code:

load-module module-alsa-sink ...

with
Code
:

load-module module-alsa-sink device=dmix sink_name=output

Replace
Code:

load-module module-alsa-source ...

with
Code:

load-module module-alsa-source device=dsnoop

or
Code
:

load-module module-alsa-source source_name=input

whichever works for you.

Then open your asoundrc file. Add the following to the bottom:
Code:

pcm.skypeout
{
   type plug
   slave.pcm "dmix"
}
ctl.skypeout
{
   type hw
   card 0
}
pcm.skypein
{
   type plug
   slave.pcm "dsnoop"
}
ctl.skypein
{
   type hw
   card 0
}

Now kill PulseAudio and start it again. You may close the terminal using "exit" if you wish.
Code:

killall pulseaudio
pulseaudio &

Then, start Skype, and go to the Sound Devices section in the Options. Select for Sound Out and Ringing, the device called "skypeout". Select for Sound In, the device called "skypein"

This method works with all native ALSA programs which supported ALSA software mixing previously, as well as all programs which use PulseAudio. In other words, Skype AND Adobe Flash 9 work.
