Please could anyone help me finding a suitable programme in Pardus 2009 to enable viewing and downloading posts from newsgroups that cannot be handled with Thunderbird or Knode?
How do other users get around this problem?

General / General topics / Pardus 2009 in Linux Format magazine (UK)
|

In the latest Linux Format magazine, there are two letters praising Pardus 2009 (I admit, one unashamedly by myself), and a very positive mini review on page 38, but they omitted this forum, which I will write to them about if no-one else does.
I really hope my efforts to promote Pardus here in the United Kingdom will see the number of happy UK users grow.
Tony.

General / Wish list / Suggestions for Pardus 2009 and beyond....
|

I am sure everyone agrees that Pardus 2009 has a beautiful colour mauve that continues right up until the desktop is loaded. May I suggest a couple of ideas to those more capable than I? The use of a coloured Oxygen icon theme to match, similar to http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/oxygencolors?content=104048 OxyViolet folder and the development of a matching desktop theme, colour scheme and wallpaper? Mine wallpaper is from http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_beta/details/1971/sugar_lake_rainbow.html I have tried to change my folders to look like these, but have failed miserably. If these were to be an option in Kaptain on first boot, it would bring the whole colour scheme together. Or, perhaps if a clever person was to package all of this into a PISI or add to the community repository please? Finally, there is growing interest in Pardus here in the United Kingdom (and I have written to Linux Format magazine today about this), so please could it be considered to add en-gb language to the International version of Pardus? Failing that, if someone was to give me instruction, I could provide what changes a new user needs to make to enable their language on a Pardus WIKI perhaps? Tony

Just wondering, are there any Pardus 2009 users able to view and download yEncoded posts?
I understand Thunderbird decodes single part yEnc, but I don't know of any programme in Pardus 2009 that will view/download multi-part yEnc posts, such as posts in alt.binaries.pictures.wallpaper.
Anyone able to help or suggest how please?

Just a quick message about FreeCiv in the Pardus 2009 test repository - I have downloaded and installed this on my machine to test for my wife. Works flawlessly. Upgraded my wife's desktop computer to Pardus 2009 (plus FreeCiv of course) :-) Brscan2 (for the Brother DCP 135c printer/scanner) also works flawlessly with Skanlite. Printer automatically installs.
Wonderful! Thank you to all involved.

Assistance / Configuring Pardus / Re: Am I missing a FF file?

I had this myself. It is because Firefox defaults to Turkish in the dialogue boxes. To change this, right-click in the text box (underlined red) and go to the bottom of the list, select Languages.
If your language is not listed, select 'Add Dictionaries'.
When I installed Pardus 2009, It did not set up the system language (in my case) as en-gb (United Kingdom). I added this from PISI (under Localization), and set up Pardus to United Kingdom. I downloaded the En-GB Firefox Add-on, which then gave me the option to set the Language as United Kingdom in the list.
Hope this helps,
Tony.

And if you insist on building the pisi package now already you can visit the wiki on how to create a pisi package from the pspec.xml file: sudo pisi bi http://svn.pardus.org.tr/pardus/devel/applications/games/freeciv/pspec.xml in the Console will build the PISI package for you which can then be installed as usually However keep in mind this is not recommended, because before the PISI is released officially it goes through testing procedures, in other words compiling the PISI from the SVN trunk / theoretically has a risk of a malfunctioning software application. I am less than brave enough to do this Waiting is not a problem for me - however, it is a different story for my wife........

I do not know if the developers follow this forum, but if they do not, please could someone pass on my grateful thanks for a superb release of Pardus 2009?
In the course of my journey with Linux which spans many Linux distributions, I have never found a more user friendly, good looking and stable release.
This release is a credit to the testers and developers, and deserves our thanks and praise for all their hard work in making this terrific release possible.
