1  Assistance / Download/Repos / Re: Pardus 2011.1 repos on: July 17, 2011, 08:41:05 AM
It seems that repos for Pardus 2011.1 is different. Also, no community for 2011.1 exists so far. If you know of any please tell me.

Thanks all for the replays, is shows there is an interest in the guide. Also, as some mentioned an English installation guide is needed.

If there is a good Installation guide in Turkish or German that someone can translate, I will be willing to add screenshots and revise the translation.

I was thinking about focusing more about Pardus, but we can include KDE stuff as well.

These guys have a "Quick Start Guide" -- http://forum.mepiscommunity.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=29879 .

Is that the kind of stuff you are looking for?

I will start by adding the first tip about adding extra Repository

Start the "Package Manager" (Add remove Software) programm.
Go to menu: Settings->Configure Package Manager...
Click on Repository Tab
Click "Add new repository"
Repository name: Community PardusUser.de
If you are using i686 (32 bit):
Repository address http://pakete.pardususer.de/pardus-2011/i686/pisi-index.xml.xz
for x86_64 (64 bit):
Repository address: http://pakete.pardususer.de/pardus-2011/x86_64/pisi-index.xml.xz

Click OK then check it in the list
and for the other Community Repository use the following

Repository name: Community Pardus-Linux.Org
If you are using i686 (32 bit):
Index Address:http://paketler.pardus-linux.org/P2011/i686/pisi-index.xml.xz
for x86_64 (64 bit):
Repository address: http://paketler.pardus-linux.org/P2011/x86_64/pisi-index.xml.xz

Click Ok again to return

Pardus is still lacking good English documentation. I suggest that we create a "Pardus 2001 post install guide" and have all the tips in.

We can use this topic to put the tips, afterwards compile them into one document and post it on the wiki.

So if you have any tips for Pardus 2011 please post it here, even links to other posts will be helpful.
6  Assistance / Installing Pardus / Re: New Install Features By Pardus 2009.1 on: January 20, 2010, 10:39:28 AM
dd under Windows works fine.

When using dd under Windows, you will need to put "" around the path if you have spaces in the path of the iso. For example if you downloaded the Pardus iso to

C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Downloads\Pardus_2009.1_Anthropoides_virgo.iso

Your dd command will be
dd if="C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Downloads\Pardus_2009.1_Anthropoides_virgo.iso" of=\\.\u: bs=4M

Thanks Bubel.. Reinstalling the grub fixed it Smiley now I have Pardus 2009 on my EEEPC. The performance is quite good even with the effects on.
9  Assistance / Installing Pardus / Re: Install Pardus 2009 with USB drive on: July 19, 2009, 18:16:49 PM
After Pardus finished the installation successfully I removed the USB and rebooted. It showed me weird numbers something like 9A 9A 9A .... on the screen

I discovered later that GRUB was installed on the USB stick not the hard disk, since I left the default options.

I can boot from the USB and the boot loader shows Pardus 2009 logo and then boots into the hard disk.

How can I reinstall grub to the netbook hard disk?

I am currently installing Pardus using a USB on an EEE PC 900. I followed the same steps in the wiki.

11  General / Wish list / Plymouth for Nicer Startup on: July 11, 2009, 12:37:29 PM
I would like to see Kernel modesetting and Plymouth used at the startup in Pardus. Fedora is currently using and it provides a flicker free and beautiful startup. Also, Ubuntu and Mandriva will be using it in the next releases.

Information

Download

I guess it is too late to use it in Pardus 2009, but perhaps it can be option.

This is a video showing it (couldn't find better)

Pardus 2009 is installed and up and running  Grin and currently writing this from it.
Wow I am really impressed, this is by far the best Linux Desktop distro out there. I have used many including the latest Mandriva, Opensuse, Ubuntu, Arch, Gentoo, PCLinux, Chakra and Fedora.

Many Thanks to all the people involved in the Pardus project. Well done you did a great job. Even Firefox looks good in Pardus, what did u do with the UGLY theme and fonts, plz share the changes upstream.

Now I am thinking about installing it on my parents machine, they are basic PC users, they need to surf the net and office nothing more. They have Windows XP now filled with all the virus invented and I suspect they have some viruses not invented yet Wink
