Okay, thanks for your response. I'll play with your suggestions sometime but I'm starting to think that this is a lot of fuffle just to give a mate a poem. I could recite it for him myself more easily. There are other things I want to learn to do with Pardus which are more important.
And I think that this forum is going to be a great resource. Many thanks to all who posted. I'll be in touch.

The people have gone and I've now recorded the poem to a CD-R disc and it plays back from my computer okay.
However, it won't play from the audio cd player in my hi-fi set, nor from the DVD recorder linked to my TV set. Is this just a question of another format CD or something else?
Or maybe you just can't play a youtube video recording on anything other than a computer? My friend will be disappointed if this is the case.

Well, how stupid of me not to have figured that out! I've a meeting now for the evening and will try to record Dangerous Dan McGrew when everyone has gone.
Thanks for your help.

Right, the grass is cut and the strimming done. Thanks for being patient.
I've now tried the first suggestion: Download Helper installed okay and I downloaded a poem recited by Robert Service. I found the file under the 'Home' icon on the desktop. When I figured out that I had to open the file with 'programs', 'multimedia' and 'Amarok', it played back fine. (All very pleasing by the way to a beginner).
However, I now can't work out how to record the poem to a CD. (This is for a friend of mine who's a Robert Service fan, and not computerised). When I select the 'copy to' button I don't see my dvd recorder listed. And when I click on the 'System' desktop button it isn' t listed there either. My partitions are listed and so is the floppy, something I hardly ever use, but not the DVD.
I'd like some advice on this if anyone can help, please. Once this is sorted out, I will try the other suggestions as they look like good exercises for familiarisation in Linux. Thanks for the input here.

Hello All,
First let me say that I'm delighted with Pardus. Congratulations to all who helped develop it.
I've downloaded a small program called 'youtube-dl' , the purpose of which is obvious. It has downloaded to
'usr/bin/ 1688mb read only' and 'var/lib/posi/packa 4096mb read only'.
How do I bring this into usuable operation, please?
