whether I am in command line or pisi package manager it will not update or install new packages. I keep getting an error message that connection timed out and don't have a network connection. When in fact I am writing this while logged in to package manager.

I have a network connection! So, what's going on. Anyone else seen this?

Baboo,

Are you connecting to the internet througha proxy server?  If so,  the following thread will walk you through setting pisi and package manager up to make the connection:  http://worldforum.pardus-linux.nl/index.php/topic,338.0.html

thank you for your time. No, I am not connecting thru a proxy. Like another post pisi was working until I installed nvidia drivers. Now, I can't unload nvidia drivers. Don't know if that is the actual problem.

I can reinstall pardus 2007.2 but would prefer to understand what the problem is.

again thanks

Baboo,

Try to create an index in the proper directory by typing:  pisi ix /var/lib/pisi/index/pardus-2007.2

from a command line with su privs.  That should set up the index of currently installed packages.  Then,  once that index is present,  you should be able to either do a "pisi up" or upgrade packages with Package Manager.  It seems that it can't upgrade because it doesn't have a current index and doesn't know what to upgrade.  I'm not sure if this will work,  but by reading your above posts,  it should.  Please post back to let everyone know wether it worked or not.  If this doesn't fix it,  maybe someone else will come up with a solution.  Good luck!

pardus baboo # pisi ix /var/lib/pisi/index/pardus-2007.2/
* Building index of PiSi files under /var/lib/pisi/index/pardus-2007.2/
System Error. Program Terminated.
'NoneType' object has no attribute 'obsoletes'

as you can see that failed.

I appreciate your trying.

Baboo,

I'm still not sure,  but maybe the command I gave before needs an actual file name,  not just a directory.  It seems like pisi needs to access an index file in order to verify installed packages before it can upgrade.  Try to type the following command with root privs:  pisi ix /var/lib/pisi/index/pardus-2007.2/pisi-index.xml.bz2

Thanks marty for the suggestion. It would be nice if one of the pardus admins could help but I guess that is not going to happen.

I am going to wait one more day to see if someone responds with a solution and then will re-install os. Not my favorite solution because one does not learn that way.

thanks again

Baboo,

I don't have an answer to the problem, but it might be a good idea to write to the pardus mailing list. In my experience that's a better way to get the attention of the developers than through this forum.

Good luck!

Well, I re-installed 2007.2 caracal and everything worked for a day. After installing the OS, I did not install anything else.

So, today I went to test pisi and behold the same problem. I get an error message saying it can not connect and network connection timed out. And no, there is nothing wrong with my network connection.

This is really frustrating in that previous releases of pardus have not caused this problem.

WHAT IS GOING ON

Has no one else experienced this problem?

Oddly enough, yes.  I beta tested 2007.2 and had no troubles.  Eventually did a clean install and it was a few weeks before the my wireless began acting funny and PiSi was not doing too well either.  Reinstalled and lost my wireless NIC within a day.  I'm wondering if an updated package is corrupted?
