External HDD and Filesystem

I have a external hardisk which i use for storing backup, it is connected through USB. It is formated with NTFS but i want format with a linux filesystem. Which will you recommend, will it work just like a mass storage device like its doing now.
Or should i go for fat32 or NTFS.

if you are planning to use linux a ling time, then i recommend ext3 filesystem.
if you are planning to use windows too, then NTFS is the one

ext4 is under develop too for linux, and are under testing. So maybe that filesystem will pop up later in Pardus too

So if i format the external harddisk with ext3 it will behave just like a fat32 mass storage device?

You won't notice any difference in how it acts.  Zinden's right, the question is whether you're going to use this drive with a windows machine at some point.

Windows cant recognize the ext3 system, so it wont show in windows at all.
NTFS system works for both, but isnt so good for linux instead, some minor problems will popup some time, like: cant write to that HD in linux, need a software to help you with that. Sometimes it gets corrupted when mounting it for the first time, also pain in the butt to fix.

The main question is:
Will you use only Linux or Linux + windows with that harddrive?

Only Linux, then ext3 is the right system.
Win + linux, then NTFS is the right system.
Dont use fat32, as it cant handle big files etc...only gives you more headache

I formated the HDD with ext3 filesystem but the problem is that I can mount it as a normal user but cannot write to it as normal user.

same here, i just solved it 

First start konqueror with root rights in console like:

sudo konqueror

Then change the rights in /mnt/folder name on rightcklick in properties.

That will solve it.

Its mounting in /media/sda1 will changing permission on this folder will solve it.
